Hard work and dedication is what girls' basket- ball team is about. Every day after school from 2:30-5:00, the basketball team practices running, drills, offensive and defensive moves. Mr. Leon Quackenbush is the coach for this year's varsity team. He is presently teaching at Deer Valley Jr. High School. This is his fourth year coaching this team at Paradise Valley. The starting line consisted of Erica Storms, Mitzy Haff, Tammy Leach, Carol Johnson and Suzanne Picerno. After winning first place last year at the Skyline Division at Xavier, the team hustled a lot harder because most of the players had graduated. The basketball tournament forthe Varsity team was March 18-21. I really think this year's JV team has it harder because the majority of the players are Freshmen and two upperclassmen, and must do a good job in order to succeed, said Ms. Sondra Angleton, coach of the JV team. Not pictured: Mark Kundla. Trojans beat St. Mary's in overtime 61-60 2 more points are on the Trojan score board made by Rod- ney Brown it32 against Prescott. Losing seven games by six points or less and two in overtime, the Varsity Basketball team finished a season of which they can be proud. The Trojan's record was 3-18. The most memorable win for the team was against St. Mary's on Jan. 30. The team had the disad- vantage of being the away team, but pulled through with a score of 61-60 in overtime. lt's the first time in history that we've beaten St. Mary's that I can recall, stated Coach Scott Burdette. The game really showed what a hard working team the Trojans were. Senior Rob Hearn was the team's leading scorer finishing the season with 272 points and Senior Dave Hirsch, the team captain, followed right behind with 267 points. Both of them averaged 13 points a game. Senior James Ford averaged a total of 8 points per game, while Senior Rodney Brown averaged about 5 points per game. Dave Hirsch and Rob Hearn were voted to the second team All- League and James Ford made All-League Honorable Mention. They were chosen by coaches in the division. I was pleased with the players and the way they hustled and kept a positive attitude. They made the year enjoyable for me, replied Coach Burdette.
