Andee Smith races to the finish line in a Paradise Valley meet. This year's swim team showed a great deal of determination and effort although the season record was 0-8. The determined team pulled through at the end qualifying more swimmers into divisionals than ever before. Individual competition entrances were Angie Conradson, 50m freestyle and 100m backstrokeg Andee Smith, senior, 100m butterfly, and Shan- non Emmons, junior, 100m freestyle. Two relay teams qualified, the Medley relay team consisted of Angie Conradson, Backstroke, Erica Storms, senior, breaststrokeg Andee Smith, Butterfly, and Sherry Gilderoy, junior, freestyle leg on the second day of divisionals. The second team was the 400m freestyle relay team. Mem- bers were Michelle Barnhill, Sherry Gilderoy, Erica Storms and Shannon Emmons. Badminton sets school history by hosting tourney -qt mug.. .Varsity Badminton: Top Plow: Karen Zumstine, Liza Acuna, Tina Fields. The Badminton team for the first time in the schooI's history hosted the Skyline Divisional Tour- nament. The team had an average season of 6-6, which was good since the team was going through a rebuilding year with the loss of five members from the year before. The seeded players for the team were singles players Liza Acuna, senior, seeded third, and Karen Zumstein, junior, seeded seventh. Liza placed third in divisionals qualifying for state where she placed fifth. Karen placed sixth in divisionals missing qualifi- cation for state by one place. The doubles teams consisted of Esther Schantz- Tina Fields, seniorsg and Gina Johnson-Lisa Gedra, juniors. They played hard but lost close matches in their first rounds. The JV's were all new this year but will prove to be good next year when halt of them will move up to Varsity. The JV's helped make the divi- sionals tournament successful with the help of the Booster Club, Student Council and parents of the team members. Varsity Volleyball sets season record, The Varsity Volleyball Team entered its way into the Skyline Divisionals with an 8-4 season record, Winning the tie breaking match for fourth place. The team played a tough first match in Divi- sionals against the number one ranked Cortez team and gave them a real scare but still lost 11- 15 and 9-15.
