Harriers enter State competition . . place 14th a ' git L ifflil Varsity: Coach Mel Rising, Mike Treatch, Tom Felix, Jim Zaw- Freshmen: Top Row: Coach Mel Rising, Richard Wright. Bottom icki, Jim Stetcher. Bottom Row: Dave Moravek, Alex Almeida, Jim Prescott. Freshman runners Chris Leobow, Bill Zawicki, Dave Brown and Jesse Alexander get off to a good start against opponents Shadow Mountain and Thunderbird. Row: Bruce Clark, David Brown, Ken Slesarik. Although they lost to Green- way and Shadow Mountain, the Varsity Cross Country team still came up with a 12-2 win loss record. The Harriers competed in divi- sionals Nov 21, placing 4th. David Moravek placed eighth for the Trojans with a time of 15:35. Following behind were Alex Almeida 16 in 15:50, Jim Pres- cott 23 in 16:08, Jim Zawicki 30 in 16:23, Tom Felix 62 in 17:28 and Mike Treatch 68 in 17:52. Having placed within the top five at Divisionals, the Harriers went on to State where they took 14th. Most of our JV and Varsity squad transferred to Horizon giv- ing us the smallest Cross Coun- try team in 7 years. Next year I hope to see a lot more runners in JV as well as Varsity, said Coach Rising. 205

Badminton sets school history by hosting tourney -qt mug.. .Varsity Badminton: Top Plow: Karen Zumstine, Liza Acuna, Tina Fields. Senior Esther Schantz demonstrates her sewing ability during one of her Middle Row: Lisa Gedra, Gina Johnson. Bottom Ftow: Esther Schantz matches. The Badminton team for the first time in the schooI's history hosted the Skyline Divisional Tour- nament. The team had an average season of 6-6, which was good since the team was going through a rebuilding year with the loss of five members from the year before. The seeded players for the team were singles players Liza Acuna, senior, seeded third, and Karen Zumstein, junior, seeded seventh. Liza placed third in divisionals qualifying for state where she placed fifth. Karen placed sixth in divisionals missing qualifi- cation for state by one place. The doubles teams consisted of Esther Schantz- Tina Fields, seniorsg and Gina Johnson-Lisa Gedra, juniors. They played hard but lost close matches in their first rounds. The JV's were all new this year but will prove to be good next year when halt of them will move up to Varsity. The JV's helped make the divi- sionals tournament successful with the help of the Booster Club, Student Council and parents of the team members.
