Experience is the key to success Although the squad was small, JV toot- ball played close to victory against St. Mary's and Greenway. The squad lost players when Horizon High School opened. The size of oppos- ing teams put us at a great disadvan- tage, said Coach Mike Rosky. The coach looked at this year as a good learning experience tor the players next tall. The closest game was against St. Mary's with a 10 to 12 loss because PV did not have a field goal kicker. Against Greenway, two of PV touchdowns were called back because ot penalties. Even though we had some tough breaks, we gained experience for next year, said Defensive Tackle Tod Boren. Freshmen Bill Maxon and Dino Rudin come to the aid of a teammate. Not Pictured: Assistant Coach Ron Kalmbach. I truly believe that our players learned a lot about the game of football and have found that it doesn't hurt to play and that it's actually fun! They showed a lot of character and self disci- pline in surviving a season such as this, said Frosh Head Coach Richard Cherry. The Frosh team had their only win in a 16-14 victory over Sunnyslope. It was evident in this game of the pride and courage that the Frosh team had gained over the season. The Frosh team ended up with a record of 1- 7. Although the r.ecord does not look very impressive, it does not show the hard work and A effort that was put forth by the Freshman Foot- ball players. . Regardless of the season, every team has an outstanding offensive player. This year's went to cornerback Ray Figueroa for defense and quar- terback Ricky Johnson for offense. Some other players that were fairly consistent throughout the season were Carl Brashears, Bill Burnis, Bob Selmon, Rick Hall and Tony Priebe. The true challenge in life is losing and having enough desire to try.harder and eventually win or succeed. This was the bottom line of the 1980 Freshman football season, said Coach Cherry. Bob Selman comes from behind to give Moon Valley a loss in yardage. Sophomore Mike Teed finds himself on the bottom after tackling his opponent.
