Students in Symphonic Winds, the top instrumental group at PVHS, were selected by Director Frank Malambri after auditions for chairs were held near the middle of the school year. Mr. Malambri stated the Symphonic Winds has good organization and is mov- ing along smoothly. Performances for Symphonic Winds included a concert March 25 in conjunction with the Jazz Ensembles, the Mountain States Music Festival in May and another concert in May. The other concert band at PVHS is Polyphonic Winds. Students also auditioned for chairs in this organization. Because of the decreased enrollment, 'the open- ing of Horizon High School,' the organization is not complete in instrumentation. Therefore, we are working with fundamentals of music, stated Mr. Malambri. The Polyphonic Winds also performed inthe May concert. The organizations work together with fund raising events to cover costs of repair bills, contest fees, awards and a banquet at the end of the school year. Freshman Donna Long puts the final touches on her clarinet solo. 185
