Jobs for Arizona Graduates CJAGJ is a new club especially to seniors interested in obtaining a full time job immediately afte graduation. This statewide program also offered assistance tc those who were unsure of their goals and future. The goal of this club is to help each member acquire a job in his area of interest. Throughout the year speakers came to discuss their profession: including a job specialist, an officer and a Iavvyer. JAG supported Career Day at school and sponsored socia events throughout the year. There were more than one hundred members that met during the year, before school and during lunch hours. i JAG has been to several VIP Conferences, which stands fo lVery Important People of Professions, which were sponsored by 'the government. These conferences consisted of leadership development and career reseach. At the November conference a North High, Mrs. Carolyn Warner, authority board member, spoki l l to groups, stating that she hopes seniors will graduate with a dip- loma in one hand and a job contract in another hand. This government supported program is also supported by the business community including Union Bank, Motorola, GTE, Grey- hound, Western Savings, Bechtel Power Corp, Valley National Bank, Samaritan Health Service, Watkins and Watkins Invest- ments, Mountain Bell, KPNX TV and Bandt's. Ms. Cythis Batko and Mrs. Teresa Soncrant are the job special- ists. Their office was in the guidance office. The representing offi- cers were Secretary Shannon O'Neal, Career Preparation Tracey Grant, Coordinator of Social Affairs Sophia Auguste and Civic Affairs and Presiding President Nancy DeSimone. If this pilot program at PV and other U.S. schools is successful, it will be offered nationwide to all high school seniors. Second Bow: Linda Turner, Shannon O'Neal, Lisa Autino, Teresa Skerba, Pam Gilson, Edith Crossen, Dee Burgess, Monica Batcliff. Bottom Bow: Suzanne Picerno, Thomas Johnson, Peter Amsterdam, Wayne Kennedy, Kelly Waller. Miss Murphy, adviser, and Dee Burgess, club president, look over work submitted for the Liter- ary Magazine. Literary Club The Literary Club had a busy year. They con- ducted fund raising activites including a candy sale and a raffle to raise money to print the Literary Magazine through an outside printer. This is the first time that they have tried this. There are many advantages to being in this club. lt allows students a chance to contribute their creative writing, so that it can be shared and 176 enjoyed by fellow students. It gives them the initia- tive to create, said Miss Murphy, adviser. The club met every Thursday in the 700 building and its members range in quantity of twenty to thirty stu- dents. Miss Murphy comments, The Literary Magazine of 1981 is of better quality than in the past, and I hope it will help motivate future writers ofAmerica.
