The Major gloal of Student Council this year was to provide both new and traditional activities whic would promote school spirit. The development of unity between students and teachers was also a major objective. The best way to reach these goals was to give everyone a chance to participate and have fun. The fun began in August, before school resumed, with two Spirit Days. All the various clubs and fall sports teams were invited as well as any new students. On the first day everyone cleaned up the campus and repainted trash cans. A barbeque was held the sec- ond day with the administration, teachers, and custodians cooking and serving. Relay races, including a water balloon toss and tug-of-war, gave everyone lots of laughs. During the summer, the new Student Council Officers also participated in the Arizona Association of Student Councils' Leadership Week at the U. of A. There the officers learned about new leadership techniques and activity ideas. The experience also exposed them to the idea of Class competition. Class competitions were a series of contests and activities that helped raise spirit throughout the year. Which class could win the most points? Which class had the most spirit? Contests were held during assemblies or lunch and included such things as hefty Day, where the class accumulating the most points was the winner. Points were also awarded the class buying the most turkey-grams and constructing the winning Homecom- ingrfloat. Pie-eating and ann-wrestling contests also were fun, he school theme to correspond with the new spirit goal was Trojan Spirit, makin' it happen. Classes also chose themes. One of the first major activities undertaken by Student Council was Homecoming in October. Homecoming week was full of traditional activities such as Homecoming Royalty elections, pep assemblies, floats and dress-up days. Student Council also provided students with 40 different career choices to explore dur- ing the Career Day in April. Representatives from various occupational fields explained their job dimensions to interested students. Miss Mary Murphy was the head sponsor this year and was assisted by Mr. Bob Schwarz and Mrs. Mildred Pettis.
