230 This year two new courses have been added to the Social Studies curriculum, stated Mr. Augie Zito, department chair- man. These classes are Advanced Placement Economics and Self Study Economics. The self study course gives the student a packet of work and then he works at his own pace. It is being taught by Mr. William Pellett. The Advanced Placement Eco- nomics class goes into more detail about various topics. Guest speakers from places such as Alcoholics Anonymous, Planned Parenthood, the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Phoenix Police Department visited various classes in the Social Studies department. All the speakers are thrilled about coming and they are thi best learning experience for the students, said Mrs. Santh4 Niedner, social studies teacher. Other classes in the department are Sociology and Psychol ogy. The students indicate their interests which designate: what will be taught in the classes. Topics taught this year were peer pressure, alcoholism, abortion, marriage, religion, anc education.
