This year the Science Department had one of the busiest years ever. Among some of the activities was a trip to the Payson Area by Mr. Cherry,s geology classes where they visited the Tonto National Bridge, a huge national stone bridge that passes over Tonto Creek. On this trip they also visited Diamond point, which is an area where quartz is so pure that it looks like diamonds which is why it is called Diamond Point. On another trip they visited the Prescott National Forest near Sedona, where they visited an active gold mine. 1 The biology classes visited the Exercise Physiology laboratory at Arizona State Uni- versity, At this laboratory, various monitors are placed on the subjects while they are underwater to determine the fat content of their bodies. This year the physical size of the department also increased, with the addition of P-9, one of the portable buildings. Although it is used as a chemistry room, it is not set up for labs, and whenever labs needed to be done, the classes had to switch rooms with one of the other chemistry teachers.
