Students enrolled in Foreign Language have the opportunity to explore the customs of the countries where the language is spoken. Learning the languages of Spanish, French or German are not the only areas covered in the Foreign Language Department. Third and fourth year students are given the oppor- tunity to cook during their classes. Many games are available to the students in the language they are studying. These include Yahtzi, Monopoly, Scrabble, Concentration, Jeopardy and Bingo. The German classes received new text books for their first and third year classes. The books are a mys- tery novel that have cassette tapes in which the story is read and students are given tests and quizzes. Guests spoke to the classes about the different social and cultural aspects and how Germany differs from America. One of the highlights of the Department is the opportunity the students are given to travel to Mexico to hear and speak the Spanish language with the peo- ple of Mexico in authentic settings. This gives the stu- dent a more thorough appreciation of the customs and traditions of the country. Students interested in learning a language that might not be offered as a regular class may enroll in self study programs set up for Russian, Spanish or German. XX l.
