Home Ec courses interest all students The Home Economics Department is the first department to be involved in the Program Review Process, a program that helps to better coordinate the schools in the district. In this program the Home Economics teachers have had many meetings throughout the year. At these meetings, they discussed what junior high and high school students will learn during the year so that certain skills will be taught. Usually, when you hear the word Home Economics you think of sewing and cooking. Well, it is not just cooking and sewing anymore. Now there is a variety of classes offered in the Home Economics Department. They offer Century 21 class, Pot Pourri, Home Furnishings, Marriage and Family Living, Child Develop- ment and Opportunity Knocks. These classes are not just for girls, but boys can also be more involved in these classes. The different things taught here will also affect boys later in life. Opportunity Knocks COKJ is a new class offered this year in the Home Economics Department. This class is designed so the students can explore many different careers. It helps the students become aware of the classes here at Paradise Valley High School, so they are better able to plan their schedules for the following years. This class brought many new and different guest speakers to our school such as a veterinarian, chef, pharmacist, male model and a hair stylist. The Home Economics classes also helped the HERO club in selling cookbooks to raise money for the Society to Assist Brain Injured Children CSABICJ. But only one force has the power to override this feeling, school spirit! During Christmas this year, the Paradise Valley Art Department had a competition with Shadow Mountain, painting winter scenes at a McDonalds. After waiting around at the McDonalds for a while, it became apparent that Shadow Mountain was not going to show up. P.V. had won! This year, the art department received eleven awards at the State Fair including a best of show. In its first year of operation under the supervision of Mrs. Vicki Wilson and Manager Mrs. Debra Ludwig. the Trojan Corner offers the students of Paradise Valley High an opportunity to practice business skills. To work in the Trojan Corner. students are inter- viewed by Supervisor Mrs. Vicki Wilson. These people must have a career interest in Distributive Education QDEQ. The purpose of the store is to back DE'theories and ideas and provide a convenient place for school sup- plies and novelty items to be sold. DE is a program that teaches students marketing and distribution in hands-on situations. I think that working in the Trojan Co'ner is good experience and will give me a good reference for future jobs. says Junior Melody Turner. student worker in the Trojan Corner. The business department is going strong this year with a selection of 24 courses and 13 teachers. Although the business department is doing very well. they would like to see more students decide on the busi- ness field as their career choice. 2l6 ? Y N 1. .tt. ,, Q E 555 ' t 44' H M l.
