The major goal of Student Council for the 1979-80 school year is to improve relations among students, faculty, and the community. Through various activities, the students develop a positive self-awareness in their responsibilities as students and in their roles as leaders, said Miss Mary Murphy. This year, for the first time, Student Council had co-sponsors, Miss Murphy and Mr. Bob Schwarz. They're great sponsors. We can really relate to them. We have a lot of fun in there! said class secretary, Dawn Gregory. Led by Mike Marsillo, the Student Council supported and sponsored many school activities. Over the summer Monte Brotherson, Dawn Greg- ory, Jim Gardiner, Jim Heagney, Betsy Monroe, Rich Meek, Richard Owens, Missy Peralta, Lee Ann Johnson, Colleen Smith, Sandy Sistek, Lori Serro and Liz Whiting went to a student council camp at ASU for four days to learn how to improve their school government. On August 29 the Student Council started off the year's activities with Spirit Day consisting of picking up trash, making posters, inviting the stu- dents back to school, and at the end of the day a barbecue to celebrate. Homecoming week was a very bigjob for Student Council. The week consisted of Crazy Hat Day, Baby Day, Fifties Day, Western Day, Movie Star Day and ended with the traditional Homecoming Dance. During the year the Student Council supported some very important activities. They originated a canned food drive for St. Vincent DePaul and had a blood drive in which 67 students and teachers donated blood. Among the other activities sponsored by the Student Council were a Hal- loween booth at Roadrunner Park, the Christmas Dance, and other dances after the games. They also went on a weekend campout retreat to Payson on Nov. IO and ll where thery got to know one another better and made plans for the year's activities.

68 Time, dedication, and a dash of craziness are just a few of the requirments needed to take a position with the I980 Trojan Yearbook Staff. Most of the class time was spent making layouts which are mock-ups of what an actual page in the year- book will look like. This is a very involved, complicated and tedious process. This past summer, five members of the staff attended ten days of publication training at the Arizona Inter- scholastic Press Association's Annual Workshop held at Northern Arizona University. Those attending the workshop were Greg Bentley, Brian Schindler, Robert Sides, Gayle Corbin and Dina Mac Dougall. The workshop was fun, remarks Co-editor Robert Sides, right up until the time I arrived! The staff also went to an AIPA convention at Moon Valley High School. Lectures at the convention ranged from Dealing with Power Hungry People to What to do When Your Photographer Doesn't Make a Dead- line.
