a ketball enters divisional pla The PV varsity basketball team, coached by Mr. Scott Burdette, went to divisionals this year for the second time in the school's history! To get to divisionals was no easy task for the Trojans. Their 5 wins and 7 loss league record alone was not good enough. Thunderbird also had the same record. It came down to one play- off game against Thunderbird to go to divisionals and PV came through with a 67-45 win. The team was led by top scorer and rebounder senior Joe Gavin who averaged about I8 points and 9 rebounds a game. But when Joe wasn't scoring, seniors Jon Beck, Scott Brown and juniors Rob Hearn and Rodney Brown were, Playing for the first time for PV this year was 6'8 center Jon Beck who dominated the boards in many games. Leading the team in assists with 6 a game was returning senior guard Scott Brown whose ball work and play calling was excellent. Coach Burdette said. I was really proud of the way the guys played throughout the season. We played with class and gave it our best shot! To cap off the Trojan's great season, the players gave Coach Burdette an unexpected surprise to show their appreciation. l. With intense concentration on the basket, senior forward Justin Thompson goes up for a jumpshot. 2. Senior 6'8 center .lon Beck leaps above two Prescott defenders to take a shot. 3. The players on the sidelines encourage the players on the court. 4. Unguarded, Joe Gavin lays the ball up for an easy two points against the victorious St. Mary's. 5. 'Z olleyball ends season with ll-2 record S0l'l. The Varsity Volleyball Team concluded their I979 season with an ll-win. 2- loss position. The team concluded their season at divisionals where they defeated Greenway. l5-7. I5-6 and were defeated by Apollo. 9-l5. 6-15. ending their sea- Many players received outstanding honors. Angie Bell. senior. was named as second team all league: Rosalyn Clapp. senior. was named as first team all league and second team all divisionals. Shelley Brewer was also named first team all league, first team all division and first team all tournament. The Junior Varsity Volleyball team coached by Miss Angleton concluded their season with a 9 win. three loss position. The Freshman Volleyball team ended their season with a 5-2 record.
