4 Wendy Keller dives into State meet Freshman diver, Wendy Keller, represented the girls, diving team at the state tournament. The girls, swimming and diving team, led by coaches Miss Debbie Nodorp and Mrs. Catherine Nielson, sent two relay teams and three divers to divisionals this year. Laura Spinn, Kim Spinn, Tracy Smith and Erica Storms swam the 200 yard medley relay and placed second alternate. The other relay team consisted of Dee Dee Curran, Shannon Emmons, LaDonna Hopper and Tracy Smith. They com- peted in the 400-yard freestyle relay and just missed going to State, placing first alternate. Mary Field, Wendy Keller and Gara Brady, because of their fine diving throughout the season, represented the diving team at divisionals. Wendy Keller qualified to dive at State. She was ranked 12th in the state going into the tourna- ment but did not place in it. - There was a big tumout of 33 girls on the swimming and diving teams this sea- son. They practiced every day after school at Roadrunner Park during the season. The team. recordwise, had a disappointing season of 0 wins and 6 losses but it did notjustify the effort put forth by the girls. We had a young and inexperienced team. This year was a good year in that it gave the girls competitive swimming and diving experiencef, said Coach Nielson. l if 5 Top Row: Mrs. Nielson. Darci Garcia, Michele Werners. The Cardiac Kids, so named because they won on last minute efforts, finished the season with a 4-4 record which far surpassed that of last year's squad. After their 36-0 loss to St. Mary's, they bounced right back to beat Thunderbird 26-12, which high- lighted the season for the Frosh Trojans. Earlier in the season, they beat Prescott 15-14 in the second half coming from a 0-14 halftime. Coach Gaylor mentioned several offensive and defensive players. Lee Anderson played both offense and defense. Rob Conrad was an excellent receiver for the team. Bruce Humbertson, Ray Fernandez. and Dan Galindo were all outstanding running backs this year, The Cardiac Kids are just the start of a strong Trojan football program. it 5 RSJ SU 133
