New Equipment Aids Art Instruction Mrs. Marie Mallak Department Chairman Mr. James Huehne A kiln, a new duplicating machine, a potters wheel and a new buffer are pieces of new equipment received to enhance the art curriculum this year. Students could choose from Art classes entitled Drawing and Painting Creative Crafts, Fundamentals of Art, Advanced Art, Fibers and Fabrics, Ceramics and Sculpture. 30 art students entered State fair com- petition this year. Art students also entered the Scholastic National Exhibits. Nine of the 30 students who entered the State Fair competition received awards. They were Tim Souers, Linnea Weber, jesse Hurlbut, Sharon Sterling, Scott Overend, Theresa Weber, Diana Wolfe, Sharon Metzger and Kathy Mayo. -- 1 Senior Paul Maughan demonstrates his talents in Mr Huehne's 4th hour class.

Mrs. Dotts' drama classes t ix ,p s Q prepared plays to be performed in class and presented to the public. The drama depart- ment produced two school plays and two tal- ent shows during the school year. Some of the in class la s were Inner Will , . . . . 'Cherebaum 42527, P51oc?chio and Brain- Y Mr' Frank Malambn Mr' Wham Mmm storm. The first school play was A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court. The second performance of the year was a musical, South Pacific. Speech students spent the year attending debate and speaking tournaments. The Choruses were also buys during the year. Concert Choir concentrated on raising money for their Vienna music festival. Some of the porjects included the Ye Olde Vienna Trade Fair, a car raffle, benefit concerts and the regular schedule of concerts. Musicians performed in festivals during the year earning honors in each they entered. The jazz Band placed first at the Northern Arizona University jazz Rock Ensemble Festival. New courses added this year in the Industrial Edu- cation Department, headed by Mr. Dale Frost, are Vocational Automotive, Vocational Welding, Auto Body and Refinishing, Woodworking for Girls, Commercial Arts I and II, Industrial Plastics III and IV, Construct- ion and Vocational Visual Communications, which breaks down into Graphic Arts and Commerical Arts. Along with the Automotive Diagnostic Center, which was donated by J. C. Penny's, the department has obtained a new offset press, front end and diagonstic equipment, a milling machine, new Welders, a band saw and a fiberglass spray-up machine. VICA, which stands for Vocational Industrial Clubs of America, is a club and class begun this year to pro- mote industrial and vocational education.
