ff .. English Classwork Stresses Importance The main objective for the English Depart- ment this year was to have more basic grammar and writing skills incorporated into all English related courses. The Basic Reading Program was totally changed in concept to allow students more free reading time, in addition to tests which were administered to them. Many guest speakers visited classes, especially Mass Media, throughout the year. Speakers ranged from police officers to disc jockeys to an astrologer. During the year, English students entered National and Local con- tests. Junior Sherri McCarthy won a Second Place Award in a Newswriting ex perience contest sponsored by the State Press Association.
