I As stated by Mr. Charles Baker, department head, the purpose of the physical education courses is to introduce the individual to new and different programs which will create a desire to continue physical activities after graduation. These courses are patterned to increase recrea- tional activities. This year a new weight program was offered. Weights adding up to 1200 lbs. were purchased especiallyfor this course. A co-ed gymnastics course is included in the curriculum. This class is designed for the more advanced P.E. student. One of the new teachers in the physical educa- tion department is Mr. Roy Muller. Besides in- structing P.E. courses, Mr. Muller is an assistant coach for varsity football and baseball. Mr. Robert Carroll is also a new teacher in this department. Along with teaching P.E., he is coach for the varsity basketball team. Practicing stu nts on the balance beam is a part of the gymnastics program in girls' P.E. classes.

Standard courses such as typing, shorthand, and business machines provide the fundamental . skills necessary to a secretarial career, while pro- X grams such as COE and DECA, offer students a chance to gain on the job experience while receiv- ing salaries and earningcredits. Special Education Completes Second Year This is the second year for the Special Educa- tion Department. Mrs. Viola King, department head, is also in her second year at Paradise Valley High School. One purpose of the Special Education Depart- ment is to give the students all the individualized instruction they need.
