ROW ll: Tom Matte- son, Terry Sanford, Chris Baird, Eric Byler, Howard Fritner, Dale Julian. ROW Ill: Jim Yazzie, Greg Vinson, Scott Winterstein, Rick Courtney, Rick Pacius, Glenn Palmer, John Jenkins. PV Opponent 36 Trevor Browne 31 Washington 18 Flagstaff '31 Glendale 20 Prescott 21 Cortez S26 Apollo N 46 Marcos de Niza 26 Moon Valley 126 The Varsity Wrestlers finished the '72-'73 season with a 5-3-1 rec- ord. Seniors Jeff ,Strickland and Tom Witter showed strength in the lower weight classes, while John Jenkins and Dan Loeffler helped in the upper weights. Five wrestlers placed in divisionals. Taking first place was Tom Matteson, with seconds by Dan Loeffler and Tom Witter. John Barrese took third while Jeff Strickland finished fourth. The five wrestlers continued on to state. John Barrese, a sophomore, placed fourth at the state tournament. JV wrestling showed bright prospects for next year. Red Trovillion ended the season with a 9-1 win loss record. Helping immensely at the lower weights was Tim Matteson. Many JV wrestlers earned their var- sity letter by winning their matches. Although the turnout for freshman wrestling was fairly small this year, the team proved to have amazing talent. Russ Earegood and Dave Pellerin were two assets to the team.Coach's King and Kropf- chek taught the rookies the basics of wrestling.
