Trojans Break Losing Tradition! ,,,,i st,-is l t -. 1 t s xi gre., Mir' 5 Head Coach Dick Anders 114 The Men of Troy surprised many fans as well as football teams this year, crashing through a losing tradition to P.V.'s winningest gridiron season ever. Under new head coach Dick Anders the Trojans racked up a total of 185 points. Coach Anders credited much of the success to the outstanding leadership of Bill Pohle, Art Vance, and Lyle Miller, as well as lineman Greg Hayes and Mike Carns. The Pohle-Miller duo accounted for the bulk of the scoring. Losing its first two games of the season to Scottsdale and Brophy, the Big Red broke into the winning bracket on no. 3, out- gunning Moon Valley 28-26. Despite a home field under six inches of water, the Trojans edged Prescott 12-7 and the follow- ing week buried GlendaIe's Cardinals with their biggest point output of the season, 33-8. Now with a chance to show their strength, against a more formidable foe, the Red Machine narrowly missed with an ex- citing last minute loss to state power St. Mary's. Hoping to gain a notch in the lopsided rivalry with Su nnyslope, the trojans could only manage a tie. Determined to make a good Homecoming showing, the Trojans trounced Flagstaff 25-16. The following week a powerful bunch of Cortez Colts defeated P.V. 24-8. And finally, scoring all of their points in the game's first five minutes, the Trojans thrashed a listless Marcos de Niza team by a score of 22-13to end the season. is ti
