Zl.l1C'9QE!,.5 Meuxfe To the Class of l94fi: It is customary to extend congratulations to the members of the graduating class. Not because of custom, but because I really feel that you young people have reached an attainment, I want to express to you 1ny sincere congratula- tions, and to wish for each one of you a happy, prosperous and Worth-while future. The fact that you are graduating from high school does not necessarily mean that you are qualified to hold every position which requires a candidate to have a high school education. The fact that you are graduating from high school is some evidence, however, to your future employer that you have a well-rounded knowledge of the world in which you live. The proof is that you have completed the prescribed course of a certified high school. Courses of all high schools in this day are offered with a view of developing young men and women into individuals who can accept responsibilities. Your high school education does not qualify each one of you for the same job. If you don't realize that you are going to have to work for a living in this world, it is high time that you have your awakening. There is no easy job in this world. One job may be more enjoyable than another, but all work is hard. Each one of you possesses individual traits. You differ one from the other. Therefore one member of the class will seek one type of work, another will try something else. All that your high school education has done for you is to open to you a world of general knowledge, and to give you a glimpse of the specific types and kinds of work that remain in the world for your generation. If you are not all qualified for the same kind of work, because of indi- vidual differences, it follows that you must then seek different jobs. You are going to find that many jobs demand trained men and women. You are going to find that you will be in need of additional training and you will need to attend higher institutions of learning. May I ask, then, that you look upon your diploma as a document which carries with it an opportunity for you. It brings you an opportunity for useful labor. It brings you an opportunity for qualification to enter a higher insti- tution of learning. It brings with it an opportunity for widening your sphere of knowledge of the world in which you live. It brings you an opportunity for understanding your neighbors, your friends, your employers. It carries with it your opportunity to be an intelligent, contributing and responsible citizen in a democracy. Your high school diploma gives to each one of you an opportunity to open the door of appreciative living. Because of the basic knowledge you have gained through grade school and high school you will have a deeper understanding and appreciation of the world in which you live. Your knowledge of the past will help you to understand your present, and will help you to plan for the future. Your high school diploma is one of the first certificates you will receive. It is to be hoped that each one of you will take your diploma and entrust it to a place of safe keeping, so that in the years to come you may ever be re- minded of your high school days. May it recall the pleasant memories of the time spent in Paradise High School. Again, I congratulate you and give you my best wishes. Sincerely, ARTHUR W. ESHELMAN, Supervisifng Principal
