Not a word that meant much to students before the year began. But in an effort to encourage students to think and to «press those thoughts in writing, ad the English class required daily journal entries. Mis.Clevelatul told her classes their journals would 6e priceless relics to pass on to their children. By year’s end students found they had already become priceless to them os they looked back on what they had written in past months. Here are some «cerpts from seniors’ journals that were particularly serious, funny or reflective. Shelley Gentry — Dec. 11 — As we put an- other good time on our shelf of memories, Holiday in the Park will be one of my favorites, The point that sticks out in my mind is run Mrs. Parker's birth- day prank or the little moons that came out on the way there, hut that we as friends turned wfrat could have been a boring night into another fan- tastic memory of our senior year. Mar. 3 — Ahead of us is a new life, filled with new joys, new tears, new loves, new friends, new enemies, new laughs, and new hopes. Our old lift is left on a shelf of memories filled with our pre- cious old tears, old fears, old laughs, old loves, old hopes, old enemies, and old joys, They may sit on the s helf to collect dust and cobwebs, The friendships will never heccme dull and dusty. My wish is that our friendships stay as bright as a sparkling star with the bonds of gravity and friendship holding us together. Randy Read — Oct 18 — If I were to land in hell my eternal punishment would 6e football practice. I would be running plays, all day, every day, Coach Dtody would 6e making me ran the plays as hard as 1 could’. And with no water break. The tem- Cire would be 200”. My would be to sit in a giant Japanese microwave in full pads. What fun! Nov. 14 — When I look 6aek on this weekend I feel alone, and vacantthis weekend I felt terrible about losing the game. For some reason I felt alone, like no one else was around But .Sunday afternoon my brother helped’ me get out of my slump. He also made me realize the game is over and nothing can be done now. Dec. 8 — The. last time I saw my belly button I was talking to a woman from E. F Hutton. She was talking so of course everyone listened She pointed to my belly but- ton and my face just glistened I was embarrassed and ashamed But I guess I was to 6e blamed. I had not noticed my shin was too short. I felt like I was standing in the middle of Reunion Arena basketball court. Thousands of people were gazing And my little belly button was just a blazing. Well that lady was just a laughing and chuckling. Let me ted you, I got to trucking To the nearest hiding place I couldfind 1 nod to gcTmystlf out of this bind I finally found a pretty- woman who took me in to say the least We are now known as beauty and the beast. Site saved my fife indeed For now I seem to freed Of my very popular belly button. Dylan Douglas — Feb. 9 — No! I don’t be- lieve in capital punishment, therefore there is no way could pull the switch to ela trocute someone. I don't belie anyone has the right to tak away the life of the man n gardless of the reason. Put ishment is designed to reform, person. If someone is dead tit have no chance to redeer, themselves. There are mart other ways to punish peopl besides death. No person ha the right to play God! Sherry Williams — Nov. 30 - Twelve yean ago I began a journey. I stoat at the doorway not knowim what to expect When tfu doors opened, I was afraid go in. I mei people as unsure a I was. How could I know the) would be my 6est friends? Wi went from playing with wood en 6locks ana taking naps tt dating and partying. No on realized, twelve years ago, tfia the hall behind the doorwm would lend us to the. 6est timer of our fives. Now, I can look a those doors and discover some thing new. Those doors an dosing, locking my chihlhool behind me. Oiuy the memorie will remain. 70 Jimmy Kennedy Jan 13 — After you die, ftow would you like to be re- membered? Renuntier me for what I did, run for what I should have done, For whxit I stood for, run for what I took sitting down, And for how much ] lived, not for the fact that I’m gone. Jan. 30 — If I had to judge the. year of 1989 by tfte month of January I would definitely cad it c keeper because of my girl- friend. I think she's pretty reat Actually I think I'm in Cove, but I’m trying not to appear vul- neraklt. Stephanie Gray Oct. 18 — If I were to land in hell my eternal punishment would be to land in a pit of snakes. They woulif 6e slithering across my face and kiting me everywhere. Also there would be stinging scorpions and leeches sucking my blood. Tie pit would be deep and dark. I could see no sunsliine or sign of hope. There would be dead, smelly bodies surrounding me. Dec. 8 — The fast time I saw Sbelfey, She was with a greasy haired man witli a beer belly. She had gained thaty pounds She had Jour tick covered hounds. Her hair tosh (iked rust And her house was fail of dust Nine snotty nosed hids ran around the house One held a nrtren, dead mouse. Poor, stupid Shelley. Jan. 27 — IVfiat is some- t iing tftat should not be joked afoul? I drink think tfiat die seven astronauts diat were killed should not be joked about They were representing our country and their deaths should not be a laughing matter. 1 remember that they died on my 16th birthday. Virgil Stokes — Jan. 9 — If I learned I had only jive days to Cive 1 would do two things. The first thing I would do would be to make one fantastic sky dive with no orte but me. I would not have anyone to look at, just me and the open air. Last, but not least, I would knock my sisters cold. Simon Wolfe — Jan 17 — What are some sure signs that say to the world, Go ahead, bet me up! I'm a Geek!? — When you go around a curve and you turn on your turn signal — When your car is started and you try to start it again and it makes a loud creek. — When you bump into a wall and say, “Excuse me.’’ — When you start to talk to yourself in a two-way conver- sation. Oct 6 — Two people whom I would love to see dehate are Mike Tyson vs. Michael Jackson (Mike vs. Michael). Michael Jackson would say, I’m Bad'” Then Mike Tyson would show Michael Jackson that he Bad. It would be funny because they both have such high pitch voices. Lance Moody — Nov. 14 — When I look back on this weekend 1 fed grief. I just don't understand why we lost Why did this happen to us? We have been together for six years and now we all separate and never again 6ecome one unit I would give anything jor another chance. I five in nn emp- ty worid right now. I was not ready for us to lose; I didn't have anything planned in case we did lose, so now I don't know what to do but cry! Jan, IS — A classy person is someone who is mature and is a gentleman or lady, but is not so stuck on themselves that they would not hang around certain people Because of the way they dress or what they drive or what they look like. A classy person doesn't care what kind of people he is caught with because he does not think he is a classy person. He thinks he is human just like everyone else in this world and he eats just like eve- ryone else in this world. He doesn't think that the sun only rises when he wakes up. That’s a class act.1 Jason Wood — Jan. 26 — Some things I would never tire of are: looking at beautiful women, riding around with my windows down on an ideal day, fixing up my truck, being childish, reading the funnies, and most of all — ski- ing. Jason Rottnum Sept 7 Wednesday — Hump Day The week is ulte a bid It’s almost as bod as tabirg a pid On Mondays you move real slow. And your head bangs bind of low. By Tuesday you've almost get it in Especially when the coach kicks you in the rear.' Wednesday your eyes are completely epen And everyone seems to be if you can make it past Thursday you've got it made Because on Friday Tou get paid. Then the weekend is here and gone And now there’s cnother Monday dawn. You t d yourself to mahe to Wednesday Because then it’s downhill ah the wcy. Sept. 21 — Toddy is my birthday. I'm finally eighteen. When 1 was a kid, eighteen seemed so awesome, now that it’s here it’s really no big deal I’m the same guy who just yes- terday was seventeen- It’s neat being considered art adult Al- though, I don't understand why the school stid needs a note from my rrtorru I’m old enough to vote, but I’m not old enough to ted when I’m sick. I can go and fight for my country, but I can’t leave school grounds without permission. It’s ironic, isn’t it? Oct 4 — I must have, lost my bead when I decided to take Mrs. Parker for three periods. I must have been crazy. That ug- ly, old teacher. I swear, she’s a dinosaur. She probably has a bed with one side on it — the wrong side. She's constantly nagging and griping. She works us so hard that football practice seems like a nice, easy way to jinish the day. .She never lets up. Day in and day out No jiin at aft Never. Work, work, work. .. Chris Hensley Nov. 9 — The 6est advice I ever received was to always try your hardest at what you do and never lose confidence. If you set your mind to something and try hard enough, then you can ac- complish it, no matter how many setbacks. The best advice I couid give to someone in junior high is similar to the advice I was giv- en. I would ted them never to quit Set goal and not be satisfied until you reach it I would tell them not to look back at their losses but took Back at their wins. Don’t worry about who is 6etter than them. Don't worry about who is picked to win and who is picked to lose. As long as they do their Best then they should be satisfied. Everyone has heard this advice, But it is true and wid help them cut in anything they do as long as they remember it. Kari Wood Nov. 9 — The Best advice I have received jrom someone is to do and live what you think is right. Don't worry about what other people think. Tou need to make yourself happy first, dteu everything else wid fall into place. Life is too short to worry end try to please others. Ad you need to do is to try to please yourself. Rayma H purify Nov. 14 — Now that the season is over, I don’t think seeing another Panther Jombull game wid ever seem as impor- tant to me. then again, I feel a curious mixture of relief and hap- piness. It not only symbolized the end but also a beginning. There wid 6e several ends this year and we wid 6egin to feel dke we’re floating m space with nothing familiar to hold on to. I just hope we ad have enough courage to look to the Juture instead of trying to hold on to the past We’ve ready grown together and' we’ll ad miss that I know I wid 1 Z Sheerur Etutm 3.
