Dignified Seniors, at last? XY'hen we entered Sehool for our last year, we found ourselves indeed fortunate in having Mrs. Myrtle Paul Carowan as our Senior advisor and Mr. Charles B. Elks as our sponsor. We had Mr. H. D. Ifpting and Mr. 'lesse M. jones as new faeulty members. The three teachers who remained with us all four years of our High School Career were: Mrs. Myrtle P. Cfarowan, Mrs. ll. T. Byrum, and Mr. -loe Wfindley. XY'e lost two of our tlassmates, Hulda Cullifer Sullivan and lfrnisteen Allen Hetitley, who detided they had rather have a career in marriage than a diploma. Seniors are usually very husy people and the Seniors ot' '35 were no exteption. lfirst we eleeted our tlass olitiieers, Norman Midgette, Presidentg Anna Dean Davis, Vine President, Hazel Paul, Set- retaryg Carrera Bowen and Rena Topping, Treasurers1 and Betsy I.ong, Reporter. Those heing privileged to become Beta meinhers were Inez lfverett and liarhara XVoolard. The day Mr. Blaekwell tame to measure us tor our rings was one ot' the memorahle occasions as Seniors, Then name our solititation for ads in our annual. The selee- tion of mascots was a hard job sinee there were so many nite little hoys and girls to thoose from. lfinally the vote was mast, however, and Doran Cluthrell and XX'ayne Radtlatitie were thosen as Mastots. On Oetoher 25, 1952 otturred one ot' the happiest occasions ot' our Senior year . . . the arrival ot our long-waited- tor tlass rings? By this time, we were really hegin- ning to feel like Seniors, and even more so when we hegan work on our annual and selected our caps and gowns. We deeided on white taps and gowns with green and white tassels. XWe looked forward, with great antitipation, to our Senior Play, our junior-Senior Banquet, and of course, Graduation. Our loving devotion and loyalty go to our par- ents, our tlassmates, .ind our teathers who have so untiringly guided us through these past twelve years ol' our lives, and may we long rememher them with some of the same kindness that they have showered upon us. ward jones, husband of the former Miss Anne Alman, Miss jean Vfilliams, and Mr. Charles Elks joined in guiding us through this year, Norman Midgette led the class as President and joyce Canady, Hulda Cullifer, and Magnolia Duckworth had the privilege of hetoming Beta Club members. The outstanding event of this year was the Holi- day junior-Senior Banquet at which eight members of the class, llulda Ciulliter, Betsy Long, Doris Keech, Hazel Paul, Bobby Mobley, Norman Mid- gette, H. Newberry, and Preston Wfatson. served as waiters and waitresses. Anna Davis and Hazel Paul again represented our tlass as Marshals. XVith the opening ot' the 1951-1952 sthool term, we liound ourselves one step higher on the rungs ol' the ladder towards our ultimate goal -Gradua- tionl During this, our junior year, one of the new faculty members. Mrs. Betty S. Guilford of Choco- winity, had the high position ot' being our advisor. We gained lamhert Van XY yk from Terra Cleia and lost Doris Keeth, Vernon Myers, Nellie Allen, Ralph Dunbar, j. ll. Newberry, Preston Wfatson, and Sara Boyd. Again this year, we had two new tatulty members in addition to Mrs. Guilford. and they were: Mrs. Carrie joyner and Miss Anna jean Poole. Norman Midgette was again Class President and three ol' our classmates, Delouous Vlfaters, Lam- bert van XVyk, and Retha Radtlifte, became mem- bers oti the Beta Club. This was an unusually busy year, having our junior Play and entertaining the Senior Class at a hancyuet. The play. The Stuffed Shirt was a huge suttess, and our banquet, whith was held at Club Saleeby's in XY'ashington, was semi-formal and tar- ried out a Spanish theme with ten members of the Sophomore Class serving as waiters and waitresses. This year a new contest was carried on in the High School and that was the selettion of a girl who would he Miss Pantego High. Our elass was proud to have one of our own juniors, Betsy Long, receive this delightful honor. The Chief Marshal, who is always a junior, was Anna Davis with Hazel Paul and Betsy Long serv- ing as the other two marshals from our tlass. Our class was well represented at Commencement when joyce Gaylord, Rena Topping, Anna Dean Davis, and lnez liverett received medals for out- standing ability in their respective fields. We con' eluded our junior Year in a flurry of parties and the delightful prospects of being rising Seniors!
