“P. H. S. GIRLS' BASKETBALL The 1950-51 Panora Bluejay girls finished the season with average suc- cess by winning eleven games and losing eleven games. Eight letter winners and four non-letter winners made up the squad for the year. Senior co-captains for the season were Betty Wine, a three letter winner, and Mary Rae Clouse, a three letter winner. Colleen Mains also played her last games as a senior this year. The other letter winners were: juniors--Phyllis Stotts forward, Donna Burgess, guardg Joan lolbe, guard, Mava Clouse, guard, Marilyn Gibson, forward, Mildred Hall, forward, Patty Light forward, and Louise Boots, guard, sophomore--Roxie Snithson, forward, and freshman--Ruth Kolbe, guard. The season opened slowly with a four point defeat by Yalima four point victory over Casey, and a five point loss to Earlham. Lack of eight proved to be a season's handicap. In the twenty-two game schedule ten games were'won or lost by a mar- gin of six points or less. Woodward, Guthrie Center and Menlo were the three opponents scoring decisive victories. By losing the last Raccoon Valley Conference game to previously beaten Redfield, the Panora girls missed a second place conference rating. In the Guthrie County Tournament held at Panera, the Bluejay girls played Menlo and were defeated 54-35. In the sectional tournament held at Bagley, they advanced to the finals before losing to Cooper. They were awarded the runner-up trophey--the second trophy to be won by a girls' team in the history of the school. The forwards scored an average of 32 points while their opponents scored an average of 38 points per game. SCORES Panora ....29 Yale ..... . Panera... ....37 Casey......
