F O O T B A L L H I G H L I G H T S The Panora Bluejays, off to a flying start with two wins and one loss in their first three games, held high hopes for a victorious season. However, after their opening surge, the local footballers ran head-on into the Hheavy end of their conference schedule, losing to Dallas Center, Earlham and Redfield and tying Stuart before dropping the season's finale to Guthrie Center to end the campaign with a record of 2 wins, 5 losses, and 1 tie. The opening day of practice found thirteen lettermen checking out equip- ment plus a host of first year men and non-letter winners. A total of thirty three men made up the 1950 squad. A breakdown of the squad shows thatin spite of the large number of candidates, the Bluejays were lacking in depth as well as in experience, for twenty-two of the thirty-three aspirants for positions were underclassmen. Led by only two seniors, all conference end Richard Arganbright, and big tackle Ben Bascom, the Bluejays hopefully plunged into the task of building the 1950 grid machine and filling the vacancies left by the graduation ofseven senior lettermen from last year's squad. After dropping the season's opener to non-conference Fxira, our Bluejays moved into the conference schedule with wins over Adel and Dexter to head the conference standing after three weeks of play. Then it happened!! We dropped the afore mentioned games to Dallas Center, Earlham and Redfield, and with the tie with Stuart, we finished the season lodged neatly in sixth place. Past season honors went to Richard Arganbright, who was selected as anall conference end for the third straight year, and received honorable mention fer Jack North's All-State Team. Keith Trent and Lyle Reynolds were placed on the All-Conference Honor Roll for their good work during the season. with fifteen lettermen returning next fall, the Bluejays are looking for- ward to a successful 1951 gridiron season.
