Four years of school, both work and play, We've learned a lot since that first day. 'Tis true we might have done much worse, If so, wezd be dead and in a hearse. Our teachers have all done just fine To help us cultivate our minds. These fine teachers whose names I'll tell Are Iverson, McLennan, Whiteman, and Norvell, There's Hudson, Stockdale, Russell, and Bryan, too. Of another person we must take stock, It's our wonderful janitor, Harry Brock. We-give our thanks to one and all But regret we'll be absent in the fall. But as we leave, we bequeath to all The right to whisper in the study hall. We hope the teachers will not mind, But, of course, quietude would be very fine. And as we're a generous lot we'll leave to the juniors the things we've forgot. And now I'll tell you what we'll do, These many bequests we'll leave to you. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT: We, the members of the class of 1951, regret in leaving, but hopeful for the future, desire to make our last will and testament and hoping that some benefits may be derived from these gifts. And to the lower class students a feeling of loyalty and support for our Panora High School. To the entire school and faculty and all others who helped, we extend our heartiest thanks for the kind aid in putting out our annual. F O O T B A L L H I G H L I G H T S The Panora Bluejays, off to a flying start with two wins and one loss in their first three games, held high hopes for a victorious season. However, after their opening surge, the local footballers ran head-on into the Hheavy end of their conference schedule, losing to Dallas Center, Earlham and Redfield and tying Stuart before dropping the season's finale to Guthrie Center to end the campaign with a record of 2 wins, 5 losses, and 1 tie. The opening day of practice found thirteen lettermen checking out equip- ment plus a host of first year men and non-letter winners. A total of thirty three men made up the 1950 squad. A breakdown of the squad shows thatin spite of the large number of candidates, the Bluejays were lacking in depth as well as in experience, for twenty-two of the thirty-three aspirants for positions were underclassmen. Led by only two seniors, all conference end Richard Arganbright, and big tackle Ben Bascom, the Bluejays hopefully plunged into the task of building the 1950 grid machine and filling the vacancies left by the graduation ofseven senior lettermen from last year's squad. After dropping the season's opener to non-conference Fxira, our Bluejays moved into the conference schedule with wins over Adel and Dexter to head the conference standing after three weeks of play. Then it happened!! We dropped the afore mentioned games to Dallas Center, Earlham and Redfield, and with the tie with Stuart, we finished the season lodged neatly in sixth place. Past season honors went to Richard Arganbright, who was selected as anall conference end for the third straight year, and received honorable mention fer Jack North's All-State Team. Keith Trent and Lyle Reynolds were placed on the All-Conference Honor Roll for their good work during the season. with fifteen lettermen returning next fall, the Bluejays are looking for- ward to a successful 1951 gridiron season. BOYS' BASKETBAIL The Panora High basketball season started with high hopes of building a team that had been torn apart by the absence of a host of graduated team members. Led by Dick Arganbright, leading conference scorer for the past two years, and Ben Bascom a husky veteran rebounder, the Bluejays began to prepare for their first scheduled basketball game which was seven days after the last football game. This first game, which they lost, showed h ed f plainly that the blue and white did not have t eir the basket and that the team needed much practice a also showed that there were very good prospects for t eyes sharpen up or t ball handling. It he coming year. Bluejays were one of The annual conference jamboree showed that the the top contenders for the conference title. After the first half of the conference race Panora and Adel, the only team that Panora hadn't sched- uled, were leading the conference race. The Bluejays were in high hopes of capturing the first conference trophy in their basketball history after ousting the tough Earlham and Woodward quintets. Then the lid was put on our basket. Stuart the dark horse in the conference race at the start of the season, played one of their better games and took Panora out of the conference race with a margin of 2 points. Panora finished second in the conference with a percentage of .892, which was 8 percentage points be- hind conference leading Adel. The Bluejays were beaten in the county tourney by one point by an aggressive Yale team that took the championship. Panora, steadily improv- ing throughout the season, took the sectional title and advanced to a dis- trict berth for the first time in five years. The Bluejays were beaten by a highly rated Carroll Team which eventually won the title. The Panora Bluejays finished the campaign with l5 wins, 7 losses for a win percentage of .682 and a very successful season. Panora will be back for the 1951-52 season with 3 regulars from this year's squad and a total of 7 lettermen with high hopes of another successful season. The order of the schools' standings in the Raccoon Valley Conference for the year 1950-51 was: Adel, Panora, Earlham, Woodward, Dallas Center, Stuart, Redfield, and Dexter. One of Panora's players received honorable mention on Jack North's teams in the Des Moines Register. It was Richard Arganbright, our star center. SCORES Panora ... .... Eight letter winners and four non-letter winners made up the squad for the year. Senior co-captains for the season were Betty Wine, a three letter winner, and Mary Rae Clouse, a three letter winner. Colleen Mains also played her last games as a senior this year. The other letter winners were: juniors--Phyllis Stotts forward, Donna Burgess, guardg Joan lolbe, guard, Mava Clouse, guard, Marilyn Gibson, forward, Mildred Hall, forward, Patty Light forward, and Louise Boots, guard, sophomore--Roxie Snithson, forward, and freshman--Ruth Kolbe, guard. The season opened slowly with a four point defeat by Yalima four point victory over Casey, and a five point loss to Earlham. Lack of eight proved to be a season's handicap. In the twenty-two game schedule ten games were'won or lost by a mar- gin of six points or less. Woodward, Guthrie Center and Menlo were the three opponents scoring decisive victories. By losing the last Raccoon Valley Conference game to previously beaten Redfield, the Panora girls missed a second place conference rating. In the Guthrie County Tournament held at Panera, the Bluejay girls played Menlo and were defeated 54-35. In the sectional tournament held at Bagley, they advanced to the finals before losing to Cooper. They were awarded the runner-up trophey--the second trophy to be won by a girls' team in the history of the school. The forwards scored an average of 32 points while their opponents scored an average of 38 points per game. SCORES Panora ....29 Yale ..... . Panera... ....37 Casey......
