'diff s HAROLD THANSCHIEDT ,K gl DELBLRT WHITBNACK HISTORY OF THE CLASS OF 1948 Maybelle Blakley had great expectations for the 35 small boys and girls who marched up to the first grade room on the first day of school in September, 1956. This first year was very exciting, when we consider the fact that everything was entirely new to us. Many new love affairs blossomed when springtime came, since all the little boys spent most of their time writing love notes. We especially enjoyed Jimmy Smith's romantic nature when he wrote notes saying HI love youu to June and asked her to pass them on to Donna when she had read then. Such were our first few months at school! When we enrolled in the Second grade we found that we were to be moved tem- porarily to the Christian Church Basement, with Blanche Dombaugh for our teacher. ' ' We ecnool was fun for all of us this year since we had such a grand teacher. were taught to read the clock, which was quite a feat for some of us. There a big snowstorm this year and we enjoyed making a big lgloo by the side of church. We had lots of fun playing in it, and of course several snowball fl resulted. , We were in the new Grade Building for our third year--Florence White was the hts was our very patient teacher. We began to learn a little English under her direc- tion, but nothing was said of conjugation as yet. She was very kind to us, even through our epidemic of rock-throwing. We liked our fourth grade teacher--Miss Lydia Clark--so much. She taught us our multiplication and division, which we have never forgotten. In this year we lost Don Grayson, Robert Hodsden, Teddy Kralicek, Donny Lehman, Albert Ter- rlll Jr., and Carolyn Saxelid. Florence Randels was our fifth grade teacher and the wife of the superinten- dent. We felt very wise when we learned to do fractions--soon clpherlng became more fun than even teeterlng and swinging, so we challenged all the lower grades to contests. Roger Breckner left us in this year, but we were happy to gain Albert Clark, Della Horn, and Delores Moore. In the sixth grade we had our first man teacher, Mr. Parks. 4-H became OUP main interest because most of us were old enough to join now.
