After seven years in grade school, forty eight frightened children wandered around the halls of P H S in September of 1942 In the first class meeting of the year, the group chose Hubert Marvel as presi dent Joe Herndon, vice president, Helen Nickell, secretary treasurer Mary Nell Calliham, reporter and Elvia Speer, sponsor Feeling rather Toward the end of their first year in high school, the freshmen enjoyed a picnic in Elmwood Park A group of approximately forty two sophomores enrolled the follow ing year Their officers were Joe Herndon, president, Roy Lee Engle, vice president, Doris Jeanne Pruitt, secretary treasurer, Mary Jane Thurman, reporter, and Mrs James McDaniel, sponsor The class can look back with happy thoughts to the Christmas party in the home of Mary Nell Calliham and a picnic in the park in Amarillo In the fall of '44 thirty nine Juniors returned to their studies with more enthusiasm than before, despite the war situation which some times restricted their activities The class, under the able leader ship of Mrs Pauline 0'Keefe, elected H B Skelton, president, Ruthe Wade, vice president, Doris Jeanne Pruitt, treasurer, Patricia King, secretary, Jo Ann Simmons, reporter Some of the outstanding events of the year were a Christmas party at M s 0 Keefe's home, a picnic in Elmwood Park, and the Junior-Senior Banquet The Class of '46 will graduate with thirty-seven members We have had a very successful year with the following officers Roy Lee Engle president, Harold Sutton, vice-presidentg Doris Jeanne Pruitt, treasurer first semesterg Gladys Detten, treasurer second semester, H. B. Skelton secretary, and Mrs. Gary Simms, sponsor, The class enjoyed a Christmas party at Mrs. Franklin's home. The Senior play, NSixteen in Augustu, was presented with big success, and the class is looking forward to the Junior-Senior Banquet as well as the trip to Carlsbad Caverns. Then we will say good-bye to dear old P. H. S., having many happy memories of the years we have spent here. chastened, the class selected their motto, HGreen but growing.H I 2 9 7
