M UG? GUS QW The flrst day of school 1D 1934, thirty n1ne first graders looked around the class room exc1tedly and at their teacher with shy, expectant faces To them, th1s was the biggest day of thelr l1ves the f1rst day of the1r school career As the weeks passed, they learned to read, pr1nt and spell There were partles and fun, fights and punishments It was not unusual for the hands of these pupils to be paddled with a ruler when the chlldren had been noisy in the absence of the teacher from the class room The years passed quickly as the chlldren worked, played and grew together Some moved away and new pup1ls Joined the group last after seven years, forty eight seventh graders graduated from grade school In September of 1941, f1fty four inquisitive freshmen explored the halls of P H S Under the able sponsorship of Miss Rutledge, Gene Skaggs served as president, Rlchard Nunn as vice president, Rheuben Murray as secretary treasurer, and Luella Carroll as reporter We selected as our motto, Enter to Learn, Go Forth to Serve , blue and gold as our class colors, and carnatlons as our flower The year was successfully com pleted w1th a class plcnic at Elwood Park in Amar1llo After three short months of vacation, fifty one sophomores resumed thelr studles The officers for the year were Joyce Watklns, president, Charles Measley, v1ce pres1dent Beverly Locke, secretary treasurer, and Ann McCabe, reporter Miss Porter served as sponsor We chose maroon and white as our class colors the white rose as our flower, and The greater the obstacle, the more glory in overcoming itn as our motto The highlight of the year was the progressive Christmas party which in cluded the homes of Rheuben Murray, Richard Nunn, and Peggy Pemberton Under the sponsorship of Mrs Pauline 0'Keefe, the juniors elected the following as officers Jay C Disney, president, Ruth Kent, vice president, Richard Nunn, secretary, Charles Measley, treasurer, and Gene Skaggs, reporter The class colors were blue and white, and the flower was the white carnat1on. The motto was Uwe prof1t by yesterday, look to tomorrow, and l1ve todayn. Outstanding events of the year were the Junior Senior Banquet, and the Chr1stmas Party in the home of Mrs. 0'Keefe. Of the forty two seniors who reglstered in September of 1944, four teen had started together in the f1rst grade. Under the inspiring lea- dership of Mrs. Gary Simms, D1ck1e Stepken served as president, Earl Burum as vice pres1dent, Ruth Kent as secretary, Richard Nunn as trea surer, and Elizabeth Schulze as reporter. We selected the trad1tional Senior colors, red and whiteg as our flower, the red rose, and as our motto, HA long l1fe may not be good enough, but a good life is long enoughu. The class thoroughly engoyed the Christmas Party which was held in the homes of D1ckie Stepken and Murlene and Darlene Miller.Other outstandlng events were the Junior Sen1or Banquet, Sneak Day, and the Sen1or Play. In May, when the class graduates and the members go their various ways, they should have a colorful future if that future reflects their past record in school. 'Wk V .ea ll ,W ' X Z 5 ij!!!
