Pandora-Gilboa High School was once again well represented in the State Industrial Arts Contest. The team finished as runners-up to county rival Leipsic High School. Of the 46 projects entered, 39 received blue ribbons. Instructor Mel Heitmeyer and the competing students should be applauded for their efforts in representing P.G. High School. Raising money was our biggest task, as we sold books, advertisements, class-memorabilia, spices, senior shirts, and we sponsored the Second Annual Halloween and Spring dances. In the fall we attended a Josten’s yearbook workshop which proved to be a valuable learning experience for the 9 Seniors and 1 Junior that composed the staff. Two-year staff veterans whose leadership and creativeness that will be missed next year are Laurie Steinman (Editor), Cindy Dalrymple, Chris Koenig, and Steph Bowers. 25 French Club Pictured Left First Row, L to R: Patti Larcom, John Kohli, Steph Bowers, Jim Larcom; Second Row: Kim Hector, Scott Kiene, Julie McCullough, Advisor, Mr. Rettig; Third Row: Lisa Crawford, Deb Blaski. The French Club has been non-existent for over 5 years until French was reinstated into the curriculum. The club members met on a monthly basis with discussion of French customs followed by refreshments of a French nature. A Christmas celebration was also held at the home of senior member Laurie Steinman. Plans are now in process for a second-semester field trip to the Toledo Art Museum and to a French restaurant. In addition several outside French-speaking guests provided lectures on the French language and French culture. The highlight was a trip on the Cog. Wheel Railroad, high in the Swiss Alps above Grindelwald. In October German I, II, and III journeyed to Dayton by bus to attend a performance at the Alpine Musi-kanter from Austria. Students watched as these performers showed the music dances and folk customs of their native land. In April German II, and III toured the Toledo Museum of Art and were given a special tour of the Museum’s German collection. German III in May spent a day at Frankenmuth Michigan, touring St. Lorens Lutheran Church and Bronners Christmas Shoppe and other German speciality shops. An old-fashioned German dinner was enjoyed at the Bavarian Inn. A formal Christmas Dance was held on December 23, 1983, and despite the -10° F temperature, it was well attended. In May we organized the Third Annual Spring Olympic Day. Other activities were collecting food for the needy, fund raising for the Jerry Lewis “Muscular Dystrophy” Telethon, and sponsoring an assembly with Mike Wright, the “Ohio State Champion Banjo Player”. 33 National Honor Society Pictured Above Officers First Row, L to R: Kathy Gerten, Lynn Schulte, Jennie Bauman, Cheri Copeland, Wendie Mankin, Denise Diller, Renee Zimmerly, Teresa Moser; Second Row: Ron Goedde, Tammy Amstutz, Angie Alt; Third Row: Tracy Cottle, Ed Bauman, Josh Hart, Laura Zimmerly, Kathy Long, Ann Kohli, Sue Schumacher, Lisa Crawford, Charles Smith, Kim Steffen, Advisor, Mr. Basinger Pictured Right L to R: Wendie Mankin — Vice President, Ron Goedde — Treasurer, Teresa Moser — Student Council, Denise Diller — Secretary, Cheri Copeland — President 34 New Inductees First Row, L to R: Susie Schumacher, Ann Kohli, Laura Zimmerly; Second Row: Charles Smith, Lynn Schulte, Tammy Amstutz, Ed Bauman Media Cen ter Club First Row, L to R: Robert Fishbach, Tony Okuley, Kathy Long, Doug Diller; Second Row: Matt Kinsinger, Tracey Payne, Troy Morris, Cheryl Chidester; Third Row: Jay Lugibihi, Tracy Cottle. It was a season for firsts — the first winning season for a girls volleyball team; the first time a volleyball team participated in District Action; the first Sectional title for the school; and the first time a P-G female athlete was voted to 1st Team All BVC Conference, this athlete was Shelly Gerdeman. We got off to a slow start, but because of hard work and a positive mental attitude the team came back to win 10 of its last 12 matches. We proved to ourselves that team play, dedication, and hard work, were the key factors in making the 1983 volleyball season a success. The MVP was Shelly Gerdeman and the MIP was Shelly Alt. Dana Dukes had the best overall percentage. HII YAAH! L to R: Shelly Gerdeman, Dana Dukes 41 Junior Varsity The 1983 Pandora-Gilboa Junior Varsity Volleyball team had a successful season ending with a 10-8 record under first year Coach Cheryl Althaus. Seniors Tri Captains This year’s team was 10-11 overall. We were second in the B.V.C. with a record of 6-3. Our squad had five returning lettermen which played a very important role in the team’s success. Some highlights of this season were finishing Runner-up in the B.V.C. and ending the regular season by beating two tough P.C.L. Schools in Kalida and Continental. The Coaching Staff and Fans were very proud of the way the Varsity played and represented our School during the course of the Season. The Juniors dominated squad found the going in the next 10 games to be a little tougher, losing 7 to finish at 10-10 for the season. The Junior Varsity Rockets finished Runner Up to Van Buren (9-0, 20-0) in the B.V.C. J.V. League Race with a record of 7-2. In the P.C.L. they did not fare as well finishing with a record of 1-6. If these Juniors and Sophomores work hard during the off-season, good things could be in store for next year’s Varsity Squad. Rocket Pride The J.V. Rockets demonstrate tenacious defense. Freshmen Basketball The Pandora-Gilboa Rockets basketball season was full of exciting games and close contests. To the dismay of the team and fans, the season ended with four victories and eleven losses. With hard work and determination there will be some promising athletes moving up to Junior Varsity and Varsity competition in the years ahead. This year’s book does not have a theme to it as you have probably already noticed. As a staff, we could not decide on one so we went ahead and just tried to capture the school system on paper without any gimmicks. We hope that you like the idea. In trying to do a yearbook for an entire school system, it is sometimes difficult to get all names and faces put together and spelled correctly. It is also hard to cover all activities as thoroughly as we would like to, and we realize that we are going to make mistakes. As our yearbook representative likes to say, “No yearbook is ever perfect.” We try to do the best job that we can with the abilities that we have. We try to do our best for you, but we know that we are not always going to please everyone. We apologize for any mistakes that may have affected you, and we appreciate your pointing them out to us. We can only try to do better the next year. I would like to thank Mr. Stall for his help, Mr. Lou Seddlemeyer for being our Company Representative, you the readers for buying our production, the students and faculty of the Pandora-Gilboa School System, and most of all the staff of the MIRROR for all their work on this book. They sometimes do things to aggravate you as an Advisor, but in the long run, they are the most important part of the yearbook. Thanks once again to all of you, and we hope to see all of you in the MIRROR.
