The theme, Country Roads Take Us Home, reflected a hope for the coming year, which brought 1975 a little closer. Jayne Zimmerly, Senior Attendant Teresa Meyer, Junior Attendant Queen Terry Geiger As the flaming brilliance of Indian summer is quietly cooled with the crystals of October, as the seasons change, so do students. New experiences of school now, blend with hazy remembrances of the past, and will themselves someday be memories. The excitement of Homecoming, the surprise and activity, will, for each individual with the passing of time, be condensed and be perfected to form one impression of school life, held tenderly amid the obscurity of the mind, occasionally recalled by a picture or a song. Homecoming 1974-75 Photo by Pandora Times Linda Dearth, Sophomore Attendant Carol Gerten, Freshman Attendant Meet Me in Saint Junior Play Seated, left to right: Therese Meyer, Brion Basinger, Karen Moser, Marci Foster, Pam Meyer, Don Pierman, Cathy Crawfis. Flying cats and dripping wet bodies were two of the minor incidents for the catastrophe prone family in the junior class play, Meet Me In St. Louis. Problems such as creating a grandfather from a teen-age farmer and finding a time everyone could practice all added to the frustrations and fun of producing a class play. Miss Kathy Link directed the play. 44 ”Our Miss Brooks” Row 1: Kent Arthur, Rebecca Baumgartner, Chris Lehman, Joe Purdy, Charlie Jones. The play involves a marriage-minded high school English teacher, an unswerving athletic coach, various stereotyped administrators, and a handful of average, trouble-magnetic students. Our Miss Brooks was also a former TV series. The play was directed by Mr. Richard Rettig. 45 Ready to Go: Standing: Herr Leach, Joyce Cherry, Deb Burkholder, Kathy Ginther, Chris Steiner, Ed Basinger, Chet Parker, Jenny Lugibihl, Chris Lehman. Members enjoyed typical German games and food and some of the Verein members introduced the Bicentennial Club to German Christmas traditions and songs. At the annual Awards Assembly Jim Kline, Chris Steiner, Deb Burkholder, Jenny Lugibihl and Kathy Maag were initiated into Delta Epsilon Phi, national honorary fraternity of high school students. The highpoint of the year was the trip that eleven students and their advisor, Herr Leach, made to Switzerland as part of the Experiment in International Living. After a flight on a 747 from New York to Brussels and on to Zurich, where students witnessed Boogg, THE ANNUAL SPRING CARNEVAL, participants traveled by train to Canton Zug where they were met at the station by their families. Students lived with the host family for eight days, afterwards touring St. Gallen and its famous Stiftsbibliothek, the Interlaken-Jungfraujoch region, with a trip on a Bergbahn to the top of a mountain and a visit in the famous ice palace. A three-day stay at a youth hotel in Berne included exposure to other foreign students, tours of museums and the Parliamentsgebaude, the shopping district, outdoor markets, and native craft shops. Two of the groups were able to do some research concerning their forefathers. The return flight, also aboard a 747, saw the twelve arrive back in Pandora around 5:30 a.m. Unbelievably, most of the students came to school the next day eager to share their experiences with fellow students. The Pandora-Gilboa Cross Country Team began only their third year of competition this year and although our program is rather new the success which the team experienced was not. Starting off strong the team won all quadrangular meets except one, running their record to 31 wins and but one defeat. A loss to always strong Ada and the defeat of double A Kenton ran the team's final dual meet record to 32-2. The team then went on to finish first in Putnam County, taking the championship in a close race with Ottoville. Finally, the Rockets won the sectional meet and qualified to run in the district meet. Although the team did not qualify for the state meet in Columbus, Jim Kline did qualify as an individual. Jim finished undefeated in dual meets, 1st in Putnam County, 4th in the sectional, 13th in the district, and 19th in the entire state. Top runners for P-G besides Jim were Mark Blankemeier, 2nd in Putnam County, Gary Koenig, Joe Suter, and Steve Henderson. Football The 1974-7 5 football season was one of disappointment as the team finished with a 3-7 record. The team, however, was much better than its record would indicate, losing six games by one touchdown or less. Twelve seniors provided the team with stability and confidence in the face of disappointment. Their leadership provided P-G with a team that never quit. All-league, second team, honors were earned by Kent Arthur, Brion Basinger, Pete Diller, Rick Hovest and Jim Lehman. The future looks bright for the Rockets with some real good potential coming up. The J. V. s finished with a record of 4-1 and the Jr. High was undefeated. 59 Times Front row: Ed Basinger, Manager; Mr. Gantz, Coach; Steve Fischbach. Varsity Basketball ROCKET basketball players captured second place in the Blanchard Val-ey Conference and had a three-way tie for third place in the Putnam County League, with a 10-10 overall record. Jim Kline was the Rockets' leading scorer, and Mark Blankemeier was the leader in rebounding. Long hours of practice, pep talks before the big game, sharing joys of victory and sadness of losses made a very satisfying year. P-G Rockets enjoyed an exciting year of baseball with eight lettermen returning to the starting lineup. Our team was talented in speed, fielding and hitting ability and had two experienced pitchers, Paul Kersh and Dennis Warren. They would have liked a better ending record, but everyone agreed that it was still a good year. 67 Cheerleaders Left, Varsity: Deb Meyer, Deb Schneck, Sally Oren, Julie Gar-matter, and Sheila Hilty. The P-G cheerleaders believe that our school has the spirit contained but just needs to let it loose. This past year has been another year of both hard work and enjoyment for the cheerleaders as they strove to break loose the stored-up spirit. Many different things were tried, such as, having an outdoor pep rally, leading a homecoming bonfire, hosting spirit week, giving competition awards, sewing up little basketball bean bags, and giving a spaghetti supper. It was hard, devoted work which took time, but was done with a sense of pride for our school. This year was very rewarding in many ways, such as, creating understanding and friendship toward others. 68 Coach, Harlan Basinger. Membership is not required. This year the entire senior IOE class joined the OEA and sold stationery at Christmas time to pay dues and to pay for lunches when they attended the OEA regional contest held at Archbold JVS in February. Students learn to work together in democratic way and to hold meetings with correct parliamentary procedure. Senior IOE students visited the Marathon Oil Company, Findlay, International Business Machines, and the Metropolitan Bank in Lima, and worked for two weeks at business places in the Pandora area as part of their training. Basic skills are learned during the Junior IOE year. Those students who stay in IOE during their senior year enjoy more field trips, on-the-job experience, selling yearbook ads and organizing the yearbook, and a business-day luncheon. wi Senior IOE and OEA Members: Row 1: Dale Rader, Lou McCullough, Jayne Zimmerly, Terry Geiger. The highlight of the season was the victory over Riverdale. The Falcon defense had not been scored upon in their first four games. The Rockets turned that around and shut them out 20-0. The team selected Bart Steiner and Bill Hovest as co-captains.
