They worked hard and showed enthusiasm throughout the whole year: The offensive and defensive units were almost entirely made of eighth graders. The team lost their first two games and then finished very strong by winning their last two. By the end of the season, the team was fundamentally sound. The co-captains of the team were Paul Augsburger and Dennis Stainbrook. If the players keep their enthusiasm they will be respected ball players in the future. flyhfll Grade l6'a kefball ROW UNE: Dave Schutz, David l,ee, Ken Amstulz, llick Velas- quez, Randy McCullough, Cary lluginbill, Terry lleichcnbach, .lerry Suter. The regulars were Dennis Stainbrook, Gary Luginbill, .leff Martin, Steve Baum- gartner, Dave Lee, and Chuck Karhoff. Recognition is needed for the other boys who practiced hard and help- ed the team make great improvements throughout the season. Look for this team to put those spirits together and be a real contender in the future! ner, Ned Basinger, Dennis Slainbrook, David Radebaugh, .leff Martin, Chuck Karholl, Duane Morris, Mark Schaublin, .lim .-Xmstulz, Managerg Mr. N on Cunlen, Coach. The seventh grade basketball team started out slowly, but by the end of the season they were a much improved ball club. The team caught fire at mid- season. They were a fast, scrappy ball team, which makes up for their size. The regulars were Lynn Lehman, Robert Carmatter, Tim Pingle, Gerald Briden- baugh, Mark Arthur, Brad Bucher, and David Krohn. The high point of the season was a victory over McComb, who had defeated the seventh graders earlier in the season. W E23 ' ee f Q sf s Q. it ' 5, Q, M? Outstanding performers were David Radebaugh and Dennis Stainbrook for the eighth grade and Mark Arthur and Steve Kiene for the seventh grade. The seventh grade in their meets received two third places, two second places, and one first place. In their endeavors the eighth grade received two third places, two second places, and one first place. In a seventh and eighth combined meet the team came in third behind Columbus Grove and Bluffton. ffzyhfh Grade Play Che Magic Chuck The Magic Tough tells the story of Bobbette Brad- dock, a tomboy who is transformed into a lady. However, this enrages the carousel owner, Mrs. Mullin, and Billy loses his job. This causes marital problems between the young couple. Jigger, a worthless wharf ratf' persuades Billy to kill the owner of the local mill for money. Billy is also influenced to do this by the fact that he is going to be a father. ln the scuffle which occurs during the crime, Billy is stabbed and dies. From Heaven he looks down and sees his daughter Louise who is now a full grown young maid. It becomes a tenderly touching scene as Billy realizes-too late- how he loved Julie and that he had not shown this to her when he was alive. He longs to tell Louise, too, but finds he can't. Carousel was presented on November 17 and 18. Mr. Lloyd Harnishfeger directed the play with .lanet Davidson as student director. After this the smorgasbord banquet began. Later in the evening the music ceased for a while as master of ceremonies, Al Edgington, read the Class Will. As we read the Introduction, I am sure, if it had not been for our inexperienced youth,we would have pondered and questioned the meaning of it. As we finished the Introduction we found ourselves vitally in- terested in the story contained and anxious to discover what secrets the pages offered. As we began reading the first chapter, the second, the third, and so on, we found this to be a truly mysterious book. At times it would be thoroughly enjoyable, but at other times it would be distasteful and bitter. However, in many cases the distastefulness stemmed from our losing sight of the purpose expressed in the lntroductiong forwe were hampered by our misunderstanding and immaturity. As the novel unfolded 'and we were introduced to its numerous characters, we became aware of these characters' role in the progression of the novel. We grew to cherish many of these indi- viduals. There was unfolded before our eyes a pagentry of events. We were moved by the emotional impact of each of these events. Sometimes they brought happiness and joyg sometimes they brought sadness and despair. Gradually, however, we came to see the importance of these events as they brought us into closer relationship with the characters in the novel. We held on to some of these happenings because of the value they had to the themeg but, as we leafed through the additional pages, many of these ex ents became vague and were replaced by newer ones. Now we have reached the Conclusion of that story and that book. Regret is evident as we read the closing paragraphs - but regret only in that we cannot share again some of the experi- ences. Regret that we can no longer laugh and cry with these people who have come to be so much a part of us. The story is ended. Now we can but leaf through the pages and see the memories. We cannot relive with the same vitality and spontaneity these events. As we are about to close the cover of the work we see the end of an emotional experience, and we are saddened by fits passing . . . but-what's this! At the bottom of the last page is printed To be continued. Continued? Continued by what? Looking at the Title Page, which we had overlooked, we read: Volume One, The Story of Lge. Yes, this novel is but a part of the whole. We are filled with anticipation as we think of the next volumeg yet, as we put this volume down, our thoughts go back to it. Our excitement for a moment is lessened by sadness and regret. What a book this has been! We surely must thank the author of this work. But who is it? As we read the Author's Page we see a listing of contributors. Those listed are the school tits faculty' and administrationj and the community. But in bold face type we see the name of the one always present through the action of the novel, yet the one so often overlooked. The Author is Cod - the Author of l.ife. Volume One is complete. We now must merely put it back on the shelf, a mere memory. We, the Class of 1968, must now open another book, Yolume 'l'wo. Aff 111 Sifvrfs fivvfball Umm K I . 7 3 M , 7, .
