Mary Pauline Goff, Editor Iohn Kemp, Associate Editor Last spring when everyone was talking about the l95l Panorama, work had already begun on this year's book, with the staff members selected, the theme chosen, and a tentative layout made. The book is partially financed by the earnings from concession stands, coke and candy machines, and proceeds from the Sen- icr Class Play. First How. 3....,,L,,!.. Second Row Firs! The Pana Pacer was first published in l949. This year Miss Muntman became adviser, the second since the birth of the paper. Belva Wieneke acted as editor and it was her duty, along with Miss Muntman, to see that all stories were written and the paper distributed on time, One thing accomplished this year was the location of a new office-the make-up room on the west side of the stage. The purchase of a new mirneo graph machine helped to speed up the publishing of each bi-weekly edition A ain this 'ear the rooms having lUU er cent subscrintions were given 5 v P rd , a party. From thirty-four candidates, eleven seniors were elected to the National Honor Society on the basis of scholarship, service, character, and leadership. To become eligible for election, the candidates must spend at least one semester in the school from which they are elected as well as have a scholar- ship average of B and maintain that average while a member. Not more than fifteen per cent of any class can be elected. The council for the election of this group consists of the principal and members of the faculty. The reward for this outstanding scholastic attainment is a pin with the society's emblem, a torch, which is presented at commencement exercises, Election to this society is one of the most cherished memories a graduate of Pana High School may have. 442177 -Q v First Row: E5 Pfizzf rw F'-:rpf A 'lzavisr T Seyrticu' F Fourth How: M G .--ri G 'ffrrpf-'t1': f 'fickfer ' fixct' fiztrrf' ' SM. Preserving our natrual resources and learning the methods used to accomplish this is the work of the Conservation Club. This club meets monthly to discuss and study the conservation of soil, forestry, water, and Wildlife, Under the able guidance of Mr. Staff, the club planned movies, tield trips, and reports to lce given at meetings to help further the members knowledge. This club is open to all Pana High students who are interested in conserving natural resources. The club was started in i945 under the direction of Miss Meier and since then has made considerable progress in teaching people to conserve our natural surroundings. The assembling of one hundred and sixteen girls dressed in their navy blue skirts and sweaters and white V-neck blouses, made the northwest corner an eye-catching spectacle. Comments have come to us from neighboring towns as to the impression the uniformly-clad organization has made upon the visitors to the Pana gym. So impressive was this that other towns, too, are trying to organize similar groups. ln fact, the club is proud to have an organization styled after it in Kemrnerer, Wyoming, PA THER CLUB The key to the success ot the organization is student government. When a member does not live up to the requirements, she is suspended from the club. The requirements are simple, but they apply to alleuniforms must be worn at all basketball games and only three unexcused absences are allowed. Two tardy arrivals count as an absence. The second aim is a never-failing supply of spirit to cheer the team on-because llwin or lose its our teamf 44 26 D7 DIVERSIFIED OCCUPATIONS This program, sponsored by the State Department of Education, began its second year at Pana with nineteen boys, four returning from last year. To be able to participate in this program, a boy must be at least a junior and sixteen years of age. The fact that these boys work at different places of industry does not mean that they do not attend school. Their schedule is different, however, for they attend school in the morning and work in the afternoon. Subjects included in their schedule are two required ones and another, D. O. Related, pertaining to the specific job at which they Work. The purpose of this group is to learn a trade and to earn money While attending school. Occupations represented are: florist, meat cutter, presser and cleaner, farm machinery maintenance, printer, heating and Ventilating, and automotive machinist. Under the guidance of Mr. Yonker, Pana is one of twenty-six schools in Illinois having this program. This year he inaugurated a D. O. Savings Club in which all boys are encouraged to save systematically. The local group is the only one in the state having such a club. First Row: Mr. Yonker, B. Musser, B. Klee, W. Hish, A. The stage crew, operating at P.l-l.S. for seventeen years, has been very useful to the dramatic organizations of the school. It is sponsored by Mr. Foltz and this year was composed of nine industrious boys. The duties of these workers are numerous: taking care of stage settings and stage lighting, designing of scenery, building and painting, shifting of curtains, and doing last minute odd jobs. Each year the sponsor is on the lookout for freshmen who are willing to work, to be added to the stage crew and trained in this line of work. Tickets please, tickets please, tickets please. Pretty monotonous, isn't it? But that is just what the Ticket Takers ask at all games, plays, and other school functions. There are no requirements other than being prompt and dependable. Its activities, rather than being for its own enjoyment, are pointed toward serving the school. This is the twenty-ninth year that this organization has been in existence, continually rendering many useful services to the school. Mr. Caldwell assumed the sponsorship of the Ticket Takers this year for the first time. 44 339 , 1 , Secoxixd Row: 'J Firsf ROW: 'ff 'ff :: 1 1 ' -' V' 3' ' ff' L- ' - ' ' CONCERT BAN k' 1 rf .l'wf'ff'If'?j .i3i3 'KG P155 E133 iid MW -, ., Aw,.., H,V-,, ,, , nl uf, gym Q ,ii p. ,fU. .,, xf ,W,M 4,, -,VN ..,,N,,,l.
