H SEHIUll'S REIIIIHISIIEHUES To you, Pana High. we, the Class of 1948, would like to dedicate our farewell message. We first came to you, ninety-nine strong, on September 4, 1944. Fresh from grade school, we felt excited as we passed through your doors that first day as students of P. T. H. S.- yes, excited, but also a little frightened. Your now familiar lockers, halls, and classrooms, were all new and strange to us then, and the sight of your thronging crowds of upper-class- men, surging through the halls, knowing where to go and what to do, contributed to our feeling of aloneness. But you soon remedied that feeling. The friendly atmosphere created by your faculty and students rapidly spread to include us and to welcome us. We were asked to, and did, participate in many of your sponsored activi- ties, and it was not long until the class of '48 had well established itself within your sphere. That year we went to our first Homecoming: participated in our first football and basketball games, and track meets, sponsored our first pep meetingp went to our first music contest: and acted in our first school play. We never before realized that school could be so much fun, but we soon learned that this was to be just the beginning. The next year we returned to you as veter- ans-sophomores already! Being used to your ways, we immediately plunged into school life again. You opened new activities to us that year. The Panther Club included us in its membership for the first time. More positions were available to us on the Panorama Staff, which we ably filled. Some of our boys were placed on the varsity squads of your athletic teams and whole-heartedly fought for the Or- ange and Blue. That was the year we saw you earn your berth in the Sweet Sixteen tournament for the first time in your history. As junior Dramatic members we participated in several plays, some of us already being sea- soned troopers from the year before. A few of us were asked to help decorate your gym for the Homecoming Dance and others to serve punch at the junior-Senior Prom. Watching that prom from the stage and the Wishing Well we could hardly wait until the next year when we too would be allowed to attend that gala affair. It was not long before the next year rolled around, and we came back to you as full- fledged upper-classmen. As juniors, we were offered new opportunities by you, and we took advantage of every one of them. That was the year we gave our first three act play, Laven- dar and Old Lace, and we were justifiably proud of the success of our efforts. We joined the Greeters, National Thespians, Mask and Wig, the Major Letter Clubs which, for the first time, were open to us. Most of the positions on the Panorama Staff were filled by us juniors, and more of our classmates played on the athletic varsity squads than ever before. We started to raise the money to pay for our junior- Senior Pr'om soon after school started that year, and it was not long before we were working diligently to make it a huge success. The result of all our labors was the transformation of your gym into a beautifully glistening Winter Won- derland. We left with you at the end of our third year many happy memories, but knowing that the best was yet to come. And come it didl Eighty-two of us returned to you last Septemberg returned to our biggest, best, most important year here-and our 'lastl As seniors, we capably filled our offices and important positions in your organizations. Our boys composed the backbone of your athletic teams and helped to win for you a first place trophy in both basketball and foot- ball, besides the ones which were won in tour- nament competition. Reynold Alde brought further basketball honors to you when his ex- ceptional playing ability earned him a position on the Chicago Daily News All-State first five. Myrna Hale, our Homecoming Queen, reigned over the annual Thanksgiving Homecoming Dance for which we decorated your gym with autumn leaves and pumpkins. This year, it was our turn to be the guests at the junior- Senior Prom, and we had a wonderful time dancing under your transformed garden of Moonlight and Roses. Before leaving you, we would like to present to your student body our 1948 Panorama, which we sincerely hope is a credit to our class and to you. So now our years with you have come to an end, and we must bid our final farewell. The four years we have spent here have been the happiest, the most wonderful period of our lives. We shall never forget you, Pang High, and please try to remember us when we are gone. v -Rosalyn Summer CIS: 'I
