It would be impossible to record everything that has happened, but We hope that the events We have chosen, represent the typical school year and bring to mind many pleasant memories. Perhaps you will remember your first classes at P.T'.H.S., the thrilling football and basketball games, your part in a play, or your date for the Iunior-Senior Prom. As you reliv-e these moments of the past, may your memories be even richer than the experiences th-emselves. fgjfkwl Pano Township Hioh School Q, W.- -' 2. I fx. THE OLD BUILDING AFTER A SNOWSTORM. We first came to you, ninety-nine strong, on September 4, 1944. Fresh from grade school, we felt excited as we passed through your doors that first day as students of P. T. H. S.- yes, excited, but also a little frightened. Your now familiar lockers, halls, and classrooms, were all new and strange to us then, and the sight of your thronging crowds of upper-class- men, surging through the halls, knowing where to go and what to do, contributed to our feeling of aloneness. But you soon remedied that feeling. The friendly atmosphere created by your faculty and students rapidly spread to include us and to welcome us. We were asked to, and did, participate in many of your sponsored activi- ties, and it was not long until the class of '48 had well established itself within your sphere. That year we went to our first Homecoming: participated in our first football and basketball games, and track meets, sponsored our first pep meetingp went to our first music contest: and acted in our first school play. We never before realized that school could be so much fun, but we soon learned that this was to be just the beginning. The next year we returned to you as veter- ans-sophomores already! Being used to your ways, we immediately plunged into school life again. You opened new activities to us that year. The Panther Club included us in its membership for the first time. More positions were available to us on the Panorama Staff, which we ably filled. Some of our boys were placed on the varsity squads of your athletic teams and whole-heartedly fought for the Or- ange and Blue. That was the year we saw you earn your berth in the Sweet Sixteen tournament for the first time in your history. As junior Dramatic members we participated in several plays, some of us already being sea- soned troopers from the year before. A few of us were asked to help decorate your gym for the Homecoming Dance and others to serve punch at the junior-Senior Prom. Watching that prom from the stage and the Wishing Well we could hardly wait until the next year when we too would be allowed to attend that gala affair. It was not long before the next year rolled around, and we came back to you as full- fledged upper-classmen. As juniors, we were offered new opportunities by you, and we took advantage of every one of them. That was the year we gave our first three act play, Laven- dar and Old Lace, and we were justifiably proud of the success of our efforts. We joined the Greeters, National Thespians, Mask and Wig, the Major Letter Clubs which, for the first time, were open to us. Most of the positions on the Panorama Staff were filled by us juniors, and more of our classmates played on the athletic varsity squads than ever before. We started to raise the money to pay for our junior- Senior Pr'om soon after school started that year, and it was not long before we were working diligently to make it a huge success. The result of all our labors was the transformation of your gym into a beautifully glistening Winter Won- derland. We left with you at the end of our third year many happy memories, but knowing that the best was yet to come. And come it didl Eighty-two of us returned to you last Septemberg returned to our biggest, best, most important year here-and our 'lastl As seniors, we capably filled our offices and important positions in your organizations. Our boys composed the backbone of your athletic teams and helped to win for you a first place trophy in both basketball and foot- ball, besides the ones which were won in tour- nament competition. Reynold Alde brought further basketball honors to you when his ex- ceptional playing ability earned him a position on the Chicago Daily News All-State first five. Myrna Hale, our Homecoming Queen, reigned over the annual Thanksgiving Homecoming Dance for which we decorated your gym with autumn leaves and pumpkins. This year, it was our turn to be the guests at the junior- Senior Prom, and we had a wonderful time dancing under your transformed garden of Moonlight and Roses. Before leaving you, we would like to present to your student body our 1948 Panorama, which we sincerely hope is a credit to our class and to you. So now our years with you have come to an end, and we must bid our final farewell. The four years we have spent here have been the happiest, the most wonderful period of our lives. We shall never forget you, Pang High, and please try to remember us when we are gone. v -Rosalyn Summer CIS: 'I SEHIUH LEHUERS Alde Downs Virginia Downs Editor of Panorama Valedictorian Myrna Hale Business Manager of Panorama Homecoming Queen Winner of D. Every girl who wears that bright orange letter has had to work hard for it, Starting as members of the G, A. A., the girls participated in the HLIIIICYOLIS sports sponsored by that group. A total of 1200 points is required for membership, and as these Cannot possibly be earned in less than two years, only juniors and seniors are IIICXLLLLDCITS. These aiils represent the ideal in sports' 'ictivities and enthusiasm, and we hope that that entl111sias111 makes for a more active group next year. BULLS' 11111111111 LEIIEH CLUB The Boys' Major Letter Club, this year, broke all precedent and became one of the most active organizations in school. These boys who are members had to earn at least one major letter in one of the three major sports, football, basketball, or track. Activities for the year began with the Labor Day cele- bration in which they entered a float, operated a refreshment stand, and sponsored a regis- tration booth for all alumni of P. T. l-l. S. With the money earned from the stand, the club members attended the lllinois-Wisconsin foot- ball game at Champaign, had a watermelon party for all who worked on the float or in the stand, and bought a portable radio for the Coach's office. The activities for the year end- ed with a rollereskating party for members and their dates. 44 54 an Top Row: Miss Cornish, N. Sharpe, S. Harris, R Summer, I. Maton, V. Slater. Second Row: V. No pep meeting was complete without theml The Orchestra, newly-organized this year, played at more non-school affairs than at school itself. lts two main appearances were at the Masonic Homecoming and the T. The next two months found them at all home football games, marching between halves. With Thanksgiving came basketball and at every game when room permitted the band played. ln December the members dug out their heaviest woolens so that they might escort Santa Claus into town. The next few months found them prac- ticing every possible moment to get ready for the April contests and their annual appearances at the Music Festival and at Baccalaureate and Com- mencement. Along with the band we must not forget to mention the Majorettes who made several individual appearances during the basketball season. This year a grade school band was organized and in the next few years the Band will be able to boast a bigger and better organization. Back Row: M. Davis, P. Lees, I. Presnell, R. Metheney, H. CUHSEHVHIIUH CLUB Nearly everyone in school is aware of the need for saving our natural resources, but those who actually take the leadership in doing something about it are the members of the Conservation Club. In their regular meetings each month the members themselves are responsible for the pro- grams. Usually these are in the form of special reports on some phase of conservation, but occasionally guest speakers are invited. This year Farm Adviser C. S. Love spoke to the club on soil conservation, and the President of the Pana Sportsmen Club explained their new project which is for the benefit of our club. To complete the activities for the year, the club will choose one of its members, whom they hope will be lucky enough to be the representative trorn Christian County at Fox River as Shirley Hill was last year. xxx -4 ex' 9 KGS: .KX Back Row: D. LIBHHRU CLUB Have you noticed the attractive bulletin boards in the library to advertise new books, to celebrate the different holidays, and to observe special anni- versaries and news events? This is the result of the originality and decorative skill of the student librarians. However, the main duties of these workers are to check out books, to collect fines for overedue books, and to trace down those reserve books not returned on time. They also spend much time rearranging the books on the shelves and dusting them at least once a week. ln addition to those who are on duty in the library itself, there are also librarians stationed in the study hall to direct the use of reference books. The club holds its meetings regularly each month. At this time Miss Burhorn and Mr. Anderson teach the fundamentals of the organization of the library and discuss any problems that have arisen. For the time and effort which they spend in this organization, the students receive one-fourth credit for each year of service. When the curtain rises, and the audience sees our usually-barren stage transformed into some realistic setting with all the necessary props, they know at once that the Stage Crew has been at work again. in addition to the stage duties of handling the lights, creating sound effects, and getting the stage itself, ready, these boys, under the direction of Miss Meier, perform many other duties around the school, especially those which require lots of man power. To these boys whose work is too often con- sidered unimportant we say Thanks for your services. JUHIUR IJHHHIHTIUS The first step for all future Mask and Wig and National Thespian members is the lunior Dramatics Club. This is the largest dramatic organization in the school and is for freshman and sophomores only. lunior Dramatics, under the leadership of Miss Saw- yer, is active throughout the school year, ln December, for the Christmas party, they gave a short, one-act play and took part in the annual Vesper service.
