Dedication For her outstanding efforts in the teaching of Latin at Pampa High School, the 1963 Harvester annual staff takes pride in dedicating this book to Mrs. Lula Bowman Owen. Mrs. Owen retired last year after 17 years on the faculty. Her first goal was to teach English, but for the most she tried-and succeeded-in keeping alive the language of the ancient Romans. In her last High, she had 100 students en- rolled in her Latin classes. Besides the customary first and second-year courses, a third year was added last year for advanced students who wished to further their knowledge of the classical language. Besides her regular classroom duties, Mrs. Owen sponsored the Junior Classical League, a club for Latin students designed to promote interest in Roman mythology and Latin culture. year at Pampa Because of her enthusiasm in the classroom, the ideals she instilled in her students will always be remembered by those who came under her guidance. Before a program about Ceres, goddess of agriculture, Mrs. Owen places the last head of grain on the cornucopia centerpiece, as Susan Kay, 1960-61 president, prepares to begin the meeting. At the traditional Latin banquet, Mrs. Owen humbly accepts Emperor Julius Caesaris proclamation of her deficiencies as a Roman patricianf' 4 Lyn Stroble, Kristi Brown and Mrs. Owen listen to Christmas carols, recorded in Latin, which the Romans sing at their annual caroling party. 4-
