' .. of 1959 The morning of September 2, 1947, was a very memorable one for 35 children, most of whom comprise the graduating class of 1959 in Palouse High School. It was the first year of their 12 year journey through school. The teacher that first year was Miss Anderson The year of 1948 brought this group to the second grade where they met Mrs. Swafford, their teacher for that year. The big event of the year was the rhythm band. Six new faces appeared in the class that year. They were Pat Let, Douglas Lilliby, Sandy Hollums, Rex McGregor, Barbara Maxey and Jack Bippes. Our third grade teacher was Mrs. Walker. She impressed the class greatly with stories of her stay in a Japanese concentration camp in the Philippines in World War II. Lost to the class that year were Sandy Hollums, Barbara Maxey, Jerry Deakin, Doug Lilliby, Pat Let, Dean Wilson, Sammy Yarnell, Laverne Moore and Patty Ann Juran. Alan Turner was welcomed as a new member to the class. Mrs. Wicks assumed the chore of teaching us in our fourth year of school. New stu- dents that year were Donna Wasson, Ronnie Brantner, Marvin Peterson, and Ronald Coch- ran. We said good-by to Roberta Frazer, however. When we walked in the door of our fifth grade room in 1951, who should greet us but Mr. Tremblay. This was a very busy year and music was added to our curriculum. We said farewell to six students that year. They were Jim Bittick, Ernest Muir, Donna Wasson, Marvel Cooper, Roberta Frazer and Dennis Wilhelm. New pupils were Lawson Chase, Gordon Lindbloom, and Robert Lee. In the sixth grade we had the experience of having two teachers. Mr. Pruitt started the year but was soon called into the Air Force. Mr. Howard then became our teacher and led us for the remainder of the year. With the coming of Lei Lani Hard and Pat Ray- mond there were 24 pupils in the class at the completion of the year. Mr. Coble, Mr. Parks and Mrs. Crimmins were our seventh grade teachers. A trip to the W. S. C. Museum was the high point of the seventh grade. Lost to the class were Marvin Peterson, Braunda Lazelle and Joyce Thompson. New members who were wel- comed into the class were Don and Janice Colburn, George Decker and Valerie Brown. In 1954 we had finally reached the peak of our power in grade school society. Little did we realize that the next year we would just be lowly underclassmen. Mr. Parks and Mr. Coble were our eighth grade teachers. With the loss of Byron Turnbow and Judy Maxey and Valerie Brown and the gaining of Robert Sturtevant the graduating class was 24 strong. The next year we started on a somewhat new experience. This was the beginning of our high school years. Mrs. Unis was our class adviser and she helped us with the big event of the year, the Sophomore return party. Jean Fisher was our carnival queen can- didate. A sad point in the year was the death of LeRoy Jack in a boating mishap on Lake Pend Orielle. We entered out sophomore year feeling far more experienced and showed our enthu- siasm by electing our queen candidate, Jane Humphreys, to reign over the high school car- nival. Mr. Holway was our class adviser that year which featured the freshman initiation. The loss of Robert Sturtevant and the coming of Judy Frost kept the number of the

CLASS HISTORY - Continued class at 22. Our junior year was highlighted by the presentation of the class play, Night of January 16th. Another memorable event was the Junior Prom which proved to be quite successful. Mr. Parks was our class adviser and did much to aid us in these two activi- ties. Dona McKinney was our carnival queen candidate. On the morning of September 2, 1958, twenty students started their twelfth and last year of this journey through school. Our senior adviser was Mr. White and events such as the senior play, senior sneak and the carnival made the year very exciting and full of activity. Jean Fisher was the Fair Queen candidate and Patsy Redman and Jane Humphreys were her princesses. Bonnie Bidle was the carnival queen candidate. Gordon Lindbloom and Janice Colburn, who moved to Spokane and Priest River, respectively, were lost to the class on this most memorable year of all. Students who have gone the 12-year journey together are Dona McKinney, Jean and Jane Humphreys, Patsy Redman, Mike Mahn, Karl Chase, Ralph Moore, Jerry As- kins, Robert MacPherson and Joe Hulett.
