.S ,sa-f r A.,-t BASKETBALL MANAGERS Karl C., Wayne M, The Palouse Basketball team started their season with a real upset over St. Maries, an A class school, 53 to 39. December 7 the team went to the Whitman County Jamboree. We lost the first game 5 to 15 against Tekoa and won over Oakesdale 14 to 4. January 7 was the game that will be long remembered. The win over Rosalia in the last second, 47 to 45. Rosalia drove ahead at the first of the game but we had pulled ahead at the half 28 to 22. With three seconds to go in the last quarter we got hold of the ball and got time out. A pass into Joe and a quick shot from him won us the game as the buzzer sounded. Later on through the season we made our highest score of the season against Oakesdale 77 to 52, with all 12 of the team scoring. We upset Asotin and took St. Maries once again but were never able to beat Potlatch. Darn it. The team finished up third on our side of the county and we were ready for the County Tournament. The Palouse Farmers made a real good show in the tournament by beating St. John 52 to 50 for their first win. However, we were behind at the half 21 to 26 after having been behind as much as 11 points in the second quarter. The next game was with Rosalia the following night. The score by quarters went 15 to 18, 37 to 42, 47 to 60, and 70 to 55 with Rosalia always out ahead. Palouse then went on and played Tekoa next for the third time of the season. We were in the lead all the way with the score by quarters 12 to 9, 28 to 23, 45 to 43, and 62 to 53. This victory earned us the privilege of playing Rosalia for the fourth time, Only one position away from the Championship game. We were ahead in the first quarter but were unable to keep with them despite a last quarter effort. The game ended 45 to 55 and so ended the 1957-58 basketball season.
