614.45 lfiatozy On September l, 1945, thirty-five children crossed the threshold of Palouse Grade School and began a whole new life of learning. Miss Jeness and Mrs. Altergott were co-teachers due to the largeness of the class. In 1946 the group advanced to the second grade and met Mrs. Bruner. The class. 10st Stephen Emery, Patty o'De11, Richard Styer and Barbara ,-1. and sawed Ga-11 Kennedy, Ray and Faye Martin, Lee Chase and once again were united in one group. The high-light of this year was the Rhythm Band. . In the third grade Mrs. Humphreys greeted us at the door. Jerry Griffen, M0149 Wilson, Gary Schnider, Phyliss Saunderburg and Janice Lathrop joined us and Dennis Carlyle and Lynette Jaeger left. The second semester Mrs. Haines replaced Mrs. Humphreys. When we graduated to the fourth grade we were happy to learn that Mrs. QGIIGVFO was to be our instructor for the coming year. Michalene Harrmgton, Joann Nlltzellbufg Shirley Bippes, Arlene Deldine, Raynor Lilliby, Ba.rbara Moore and Sharon Wakefield joined us and we said good-by to Dicky McBride, Delmer West, Jerry Griffen, Phyliss Saunderburg, Judson Troy and Janice Lathrop. ' Upon advancing to the fifth grade we' met an old friend, Mrs. Wilson. Margie Wilson was the only one to enter our class, however, we lost Lorine Larson, who went to Pullman and Monte Wilson, who left for Canada. When the sixth grade door opened who should we see but Mrs. Mitchell- Bob Tuttle and Delores Frazier joined us and Joyce Deakin, Michealene Harrington and Margie Wilson left to make our number twenty-three. Besides our regular geography and arithmetic we became more active in our musical experience. When we reached the seventh grade a new venture was experienced: we had three teachers, Mrs. Hedilius, Mr. Parks and Mr. Coble. Dale Peterson, Celia Mansfield, and Byron Moore increased our group while Gary Schnider, Virginia Allen, Delores Frazier, Marlene Wilhalm and Barbara Moore decreased our number. By now basketball and seasonal parties had become the fad. The eighth grade at last, just a few months and we would go from the highest of our glory to the lowly station of a Frosh. With the gain of Gene Raymond and the loss of Lee J. Whitely, Dale Peterson and Raynor Lilliby there were thenty-three pupils who received their diplomas on May 29, 1953. On September 3, 1953, twenty-two slightly older children crossed the threshold of Palouse High School and once again entered upon a new experience. There were many high-lights this year, some of them were: Freshman initiation, Sophomore Return Party and the annual school carnival. Donna Watson represented our class as carnival princess. Mrs. Defeyter was our adviser. Bonnie Colborn joined us and Judy Lazelle, Albert Holobach, Jackie Humphreys and Sue Spencer left us. A more experienced number of pupils became Sophomores and enjoyed initiating the Freshman. Our candidate this year for Carnival King and Queen were Bob and Gerrie Cooke, whom we had gained during the year. Sue Spencer and Jackie Humphreys also rejoined the class. Mr. Holway was our adviser. As Juniors we all looked forward to our Junicr Play, The Showboat Minstrels and our Jimior Prom. The theme of the prom was, Three Coins in a Fountain. 'F Again Mr. Holway lead us through another year. We lost Bob Cooke. At last we reached our goal, the twelfth year. We lost Gerrie Cooke, Celia Mansfield, Bonnie Colborn and Sharon Wakefield and gained Bert Nye. Our Senior Play was entitled, Murder Mansion. We concluded our twelve years on May 28, 1957 under the supervision of Mrs. Glunk our class adviser. 18-
