Grady, J Williamson 11104 614.45 lfiatozy On September l, 1945, thirty-five children crossed the threshold of Palouse Grade School and began a whole new life of learning. Miss Jeness and Mrs. Altergott were co-teachers due to the largeness of the class. In 1946 the group advanced to the second grade and met Mrs. Bruner. The class. 10st Stephen Emery, Patty o'De11, Richard Styer and Barbara ,-1. and sawed Ga-11 Kennedy, Ray and Faye Martin, Lee Chase and once again were united in one group. The high-light of this year was the Rhythm Band. . In the third grade Mrs. Humphreys greeted us at the door. Jerry Griffen, M0149 Wilson, Gary Schnider, Phyliss Saunderburg and Janice Lathrop joined us and Dennis Carlyle and Lynette Jaeger left. The second semester Mrs. Haines replaced Mrs. Humphreys. When we graduated to the fourth grade we were happy to learn that Mrs. QGIIGVFO was to be our instructor for the coming year. Michalene Harrmgton, Joann Nlltzellbufg Shirley Bippes, Arlene Deldine, Raynor Lilliby, Ba.rbara Moore and Sharon Wakefield joined us and we said good-by to Dicky McBride, Delmer West, Jerry Griffen, Phyliss Saunderburg, Judson Troy and Janice Lathrop. ' Upon advancing to the fifth grade we' met an old friend, Mrs. Wilson. Margie Wilson was the only one to enter our class, however, we lost Lorine Larson, who went to Pullman and Monte Wilson, who left for Canada. When the sixth grade door opened who should we see but Mrs. Mitchell- Bob Tuttle and Delores Frazier joined us and Joyce Deakin, Michealene Harrington and Margie Wilson left to make our number twenty-three. Besides our regular geography and arithmetic we became more active in our musical experience. When we reached the seventh grade a new venture was experienced: we had three teachers, Mrs. Hedilius, Mr. Parks and Mr. Coble. Dale Peterson, Celia Mansfield, and Byron Moore increased our group while Gary Schnider, Virginia Allen, Delores Frazier, Marlene Wilhalm and Barbara Moore decreased our number. By now basketball and seasonal parties had become the fad. The eighth grade at last, just a few months and we would go from the highest of our glory to the lowly station of a Frosh. With the gain of Gene Raymond and the loss of Lee J. Whitely, Dale Peterson and Raynor Lilliby there were thenty-three pupils who received their diplomas on May 29, 1953. On September 3, 1953, twenty-two slightly older children crossed the threshold of Palouse High School and once again entered upon a new experience. There were many high-lights this year, some of them were: Freshman initiation, Sophomore Return Party and the annual school carnival. Donna Watson represented our class as carnival princess. Mrs. Defeyter was our adviser. Bonnie Colborn joined us and Judy Lazelle, Albert Holobach, Jackie Humphreys and Sue Spencer left us. A more experienced number of pupils became Sophomores and enjoyed initiating the Freshman. Our candidate this year for Carnival King and Queen were Bob and Gerrie Cooke, whom we had gained during the year. Sue Spencer and Jackie Humphreys also rejoined the class. Mr. Holway was our adviser. As Juniors we all looked forward to our Junicr Play, The Showboat Minstrels and our Jimior Prom. The theme of the prom was, Three Coins in a Fountain. 'F Again Mr. Holway lead us through another year. We lost Bob Cooke. At last we reached our goal, the twelfth year. We lost Gerrie Cooke, Celia Mansfield, Bonnie Colborn and Sharon Wakefield and gained Bert Nye. Our Senior Play was entitled, Murder Mansion. We concluded our twelve years on May 28, 1957 under the supervision of Mrs. Glunk our class adviser. 18- Mike Grady Shirley Bippes Jackie Humphreys Shirley West Pinky Bagott 19 Roger Miller Gene Raymond Bill Holway Bert Nye 5-.W-.wa Lee Chase we 'Q 'N oex 3 Bob? The officers were: President, Jackie Humphreys, Vice President, Janet Thompson, Secretary, Virginia Barr, and Treasurer, Shirley Bippes. The chap- ter then started to work. They prepared a chili feed for the F. F. A. when they had a Parliamentary Procedure Day. They had concessions at the ball games. The members worked for their degrees, which were awarded at the annual Mother's Tea and Style Show. T'he officers for the year 1957-58 were installed at that time. They also worked for their letters and chevrons, which were awarded at Class Night. A. is stressing rural leadership in attending public speaking and Parliamentary Procedure contests. The chapter sponsored a par- liamentary procedure practice contest for Whitman and Asotin Counties in Decem ber. The members gain practice in these contests which will be invaluable when they take their place as rural leaders. The care of projects is a means where practical application of principles learned in the class room can be made. A11 F. F. A. members carry at least one project. The only trouble was Eve was supposed to be going to an exclusive girls' school. When Eve's Aunt and fiance arrive at the girls' apartment, they were shocked to see a man riuining around in a girl's bathrobe. During the course of the play several men were seen wearing the bathrobe. The play ends with Aunt Angela forgiving Eve for not being in school and all the mix-ups are straightened out. The Senior Class play, Murder Mansion by Orville Snapp was presented in April Lovely young Carlotta Cramer inherited a lonely old mansion through the death of Uncle Ewing. She arrived at the mansion one fall evening, accompanied by Ophelia Smith and Mimi Spaulding. By the time they succeed in locating the house keeper, they had been subjected to many highly mysterious and baffling incidents and are near a state of collapse. When they learn that the house is called Murder Mansion, they prepare to leave but are stopped by the mysterious disappearance of Inspector Hicks and Madame Ravoli and the appearance of Flora Manning and Dr. Lionel Hamilton. Everything turned out alright with everyone confessing it had just been a big joke. Pa1ouse's one act play, The Potboi1er, competed in the Whitman County One Act Play Contest and won second place. The play was a farce comedy depicting the rehearsal of a melodrama. The play, with Mr. Parks as director and Pat Raymond as prompter, was put on for the high school, the Grange, the Masons and the Parvin Grange. 33 You'11 ruin me yet Have you heard? Blair, B. oison, Mr. vvhite 7'oot6all The 1956 football season was a big improvement over the previous season. This year was the first that the eight-man teams of Whitman County were all in one league. With a two won, four loss, one tie season record Palouse played better than the record shows. In the Rosalia game, Palouse played the Whitman County Champions a closer game then the score indicates. Due to some unlucky breaks Palouse lost three touchdowns in the game because of penalties. Barring this fact the game would have been closer scorewiseg but the Palouse team never gave up. The Lacrosse and Tekoa games saw Bob Tuttle, our fiery little play caller, and Lawson Chase, our fleet half- back receive injuries which left the single-wing backfield lacking much experience. Palouse played its best game of the season on the Colton field. Also the best game that it had played there in several years as they beat Colton 39-25. The Colton team had beaten Lacrosse the week previous to Palouse's invasion. Injuries hurt the team as Joe Hulett broke his hand at the first of the season and could only do the place kicking for us during the season. Also Bob Tuttle and Lawson Chase were out because of injuries during some parts of some gan Dick Styer was probably the most outstanding man in the county for his size as he tackled the big man hard. The reserve backfield played very good for the amount of experience they had. Leaving the team by graduation are Bob Tuttle, Lee Chase, Albert Nye, Bill Holway and Gene Raymond. 44 xfwff V , 1: 'W Q-4 4 mf Y . i N ' ,ivysffw ,573 EX. . S' 'Saw Q52 1 1Row: D. Hickman, B. Raymond, MT- White, Coach 34416216411 The 56-57 season for Palouse was an improvement over the previous season. The record was 12-6 as compared with a 6-12 the year before. This record was due to many facts. One was that we lost only one ball game on our home floor and that was by only 2 points to Rosalia. This game was very exciting and close as were several of our home games. The Rosalia team lead at times by as much as 12 points but the Palouse team cut the lead down a considerable amount in the third quarter. by scoring 9 points to Rosalia's 3. Rosalia won the game in the last 5 seconds as they took a rebound off the Palouse backboard and managed a tip in on their own basket. Of the 3 home games with Tekoa, Rosalia and Garfield there was only a one or two point margin between the teams final score. Six foot six inch Dick Ankcorn, a junior, played very well for Palouse this season. He was the top scorer with 317 points during the regular season for us as well as a very excellent rebounder and defensive man as he blocked many of the oppositions shots. Joe Hulett, a sophomore, did a fine job of shooting from the side, the key and on rebounds scoring 187 points during the regular season. Mike Grady, a senior, came along fine this season as he developed into a good rebounder and cleared the board several times each game. Lee Chase and Bill Holway did fine jobs of setting up the offensive patterns and feeding the main scores of the team. The B squad had a slow start this season, taking it on the chin several times before they got their attack rolling. The big event of the season was beating Potlatch B squad on their own floor and breaking the Potlatch winning streak. A1 Levno came during the season and he and Randy Perkins helped the B squad vcry much. 46 OPPONENT Potlatch Garfield Asotin Oakesdale St. John Asotin Colton St. John Rosalia Tekoa Oakesdale Fairfield Garfield Potlatch Tekoa Colton Rosalia Fairfield 47 WE THEY 41 23 33 42 47 42 57 42 48 36 51 48 47 41 33 41 41 55 45 44 48 39 48 62 48 46 59 49 49 65 44 33 34 36 62 54 i my 5 . -R., nm --44:51 fi- .
