,. . . WM, ...W-. 6144.4 lfistozy September 1, 1944, twenty-nine small faces appeared at the first grade door of the Palouse Grade School. We were met by Mrs. Jenness, who was to guide us through the first year of school. Sharon McGinnis left in the early part of the year. The next year of our journey was spent with Mrs. Bruner. We formed arhythm band. Sharon and Vonda joined the class. Miss Carpenter welcomed us to our third year. An Easter play was the highlight of this year. Miss Sleigh, who later became Mrs. Williams, helped us through our fourth school year. Dale Bircher, Bobby Hadler, Jimmy Dragoo, and Walter James left us. Sandra Hollen, Norma Elliot, Shirley Vandamark, Mary Walser, and Teresa Milbert left us to enter school at Potlatch. Mrs. Wilson led the way through our fifth year. Ronnie Mason left us for Spokane. Robert Todhunter, Richard Freeman, Charles Moore, Bob Hickman and Dick Honsinger joined us. We started band this year. During our sixth year Mr. Campbell led the way. Robert Todhunter, Richard Freeman and Lavell Wilson left us. We also had an incident in the boys' dressing room in which the boys had a sudden application to the seat of education. During the first month of our seventh year Mr. Howard was called to the army, he was re- placed by Mr. Kelly, Mr. Parks, and Mr. Coble. Jim and Jerry Shields and Charles Moore left us. Virginia Wasson joined us but left before the year was over. Gary Cochran and Larry Burnett also joined us. This was one of our rougher yearsg we went through four teachers and-- six pencil sharpeners. We also caught a rubber boa snake which was given to the museum at Pullman. Mr. Parks and Mr. Coble joined forces to help us through our eighth year. Arlene Muir left for Pullman. This year the grade school softball team placed second in the county tourna- ment. Our class still wears the scars of our eighth grade pencil battles. In the fall of 52, 17 green little freshmen slowly made their way up the steps to begin their journey in high school. Mrs. Brock was our class advisor. Pat Burden joined our class but moved away at the semester. At the same time Pat Decker joined us. Pat Burden was chosen as our carnival queen candidate. Finally the time came when the sophomores initiated us. Later all was forgiven and we gave them a return party. Ray and Shirley Bond joined us. The time came when we could initiate the freshmen. This year Mr. Holway was our ad- visor. Vonda Watson was our queen candidate for the carnival. Barbara Holabachg Shirley and Ray Bond left us. Sharon McGinnis returned from Sprague. Mrs. Glunk, our class advisor, for our junior year helped us put on our prom, When You Wish Upon A Star. Lee Shellman left for Tekoa. Kay Lazelle and Larry Burnett' transfered to Potlatch. Sharon McGinnis and Loren Deerkop were our candidates for carnival king and queen. The junior play, Just Ducky, was presented, under the direction of Mr. Sturtevant. Mr. White was our senior advisor. Walt Brazington and Wilbourn Frazier joined our class. Walt left for Deer Park at the semester and Wilbourn joined the Navy. Lary Burnett rejoined us. Carol Batten brought us to victory in the carnival queen contest. Vonda Watson was the queen candidate from Palouse for the Palouse Empire Fair. Her attendants were Carol Batten and Pat Decker. We ended up our twelve years with a rootin tootin western play, Desperate Ambrose. 16
