cat' On September 6 1938 35 lrttle boys and grrls trudged up 'Nlorth Hrll to be greeted by Nlrs Bruner to start therr fxrst year of school They were Leland Carlson, Wayne Chase Charles Day lxenneth Draper, Darrel Davrs, Lee Hollum, Lugene Hrll, Cecrl Johnson, Glenn johnsten, C hrxs lxammeyer, Kenneth Marn, Raymond Nloore, Fdward McKinney, james McG1nn1s, Boyd Nrchols Bxlly Parkrns, Carl Perry, Clrfford Proctor Donald Shrrner, Charles Shobe and Nlelvrn Thompson The grrls were Lela Nlae Batten, janet Belzer Betty Boone Dolores Fagg Carol Fordrce, Betty Lou Hrllman, Iva jean Kxenbaum, Nlarjorre 'Moore Sally Nlagle, Jean Payne, Jeanette Quam Annabelle Srmon Joan Spencer and Nlerrrlee Tate The second grade was also spent on the North H111 wrth Nlr Srbert as teacher Stanley Bauer, Robert Vollmer and Vrrgrl Wakefreld yorned the class, whrle Leland Carlson, Charles Day lxenneth Draper, Kenneth Nlarn Boyd Nrchols, anet Belzer, and jean Payne all moved away leavmg only 31 Part of the thrrd grade was spent rn the old grade school burldrng on the South Hrll and great was our yoy when we moved to thrs frne burldrng about Thanksgrvxng trme The teacher was Nhss Drndorf The class had 32 members that year Gerald Worthy and Vera Long were welcomed when they jorned the fourth grade class whrch numbered 36 that year and at the end of the year Nlrss Rrley passed the class to the frfth grade That year Orpha West and Nlarron Arrasm1th yoxned the class Xlr Cassell the musrc teacher as well as flfth grade teacher started most of the class rn a grade school band Durrng the next year Nirs Rogers and then Nlrs Bruner who substrtuted for srx weeks untrl Mrs Chase came were the teachers who frnally got the class through the srxth grade In the seventh grade Robert Turner yorned our group and stayed for a year and a half untrl he moved to Pullman This was the frrst class that Nlrs Xlrtchell taught m Palouse Durrng that year we were proud to w1n the beautxful sxlk flag gryen by the Curtrs Publrshrng Co as an award for sellmg the most magazme subscrrptrons The next year Mrs N1cNew was our teacher and Darleen Damon Nlarxe H xrwood Drck DeLong Fya Nlae Boswell, lorned the class At the end of that ye lr 26 recerved therr erghth grade drplomas HIGH SCHOOL HISTORY The next fall 29 green freshmen looked forward to the next four years rn hrgh school Robert Hollen Dale Davre Neal N1cKe1l1ps, and Shrrlev Nlrller yomed the class whrle Grace Howard dropped out After mrtratron the class felt that rt could weather anything that the next few years had to offer Later on a return dance was gryen to the Sophomores Durrng the frrst two years many jorned orgamzatrons such asl ll A C A A F I A Honor Socrety, Nlewspaper, Glee C lub Pep Club l ettermen s C lub etc Durrng the Sophomore year one of our classmates Bev erly Chaney was marrred and Nlarre Harwood and Drck DeLong moved A dance was gry en rn honor of the Freshmen At last jumors and upperclassmen That vear Iva I ee lxelley Bob Turnbow and Nlel v1n Taggart were new classmates Nlaryorxe Nloore and lwva Nlae Boswell Shrrley Klrller, Robert Hollen, and Dale Davre all transferred to Nioscow or other Idaho schools Dale and Ccontmued on the second followrng pagej ' 1 1 L r . .
