This program will allow each of us as students to develop intellectually, physically, socially and spiritually. The school's ultimate goal is to introduce Christ to it's students. So that we can know Him as our personal Lord and Savior and continue to grow in His likeness. This is accomplished by bringing God's word into each subject matter and extra-curricular activity. The school also encourages us to appreciate our American heritage, respect authority, discipline our study habits, and develop working skills. Train up a child in the way he should go and when he is old, he will not depart from it. fProverbs 22:69 ' r Standing on the word of God, Palo Verde Christian School is teaching us academics as well as Christian ethics. by John Hull 2 Contents ADMINISTRATION Sz FACULTY ADLVI NIS TRA TION Sfrgggfff Ed Cardwell, Head Administrator B.A. in German from indiana University. M.A. in Greek from Indiana Christian University. MS. in Education Administration from indiana University. Masters of Divinity in Theology from Indiana Christian University. Desiring to see students succeed in their goals and obtain all God has for them, Ephesians 1: 18 81 19 clearly states our administrative goal. I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened, so that you may know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance is the saints, and what is the surpassing greatness of His power toward us who believe . . The head administrator gives leadership to develop a school that is genuinely Christ-centered in its totality. He assists in the selection of well-qualified Christian faculty members and quality Christian curriculum. The head administrator also interviews new students and parents, determining if the school will be able to meet the needs of each applicant. Finally, the head administrator is responsible for the school calendar, the daily schedule and the extra-curricular activities which are directed to equip and unite the student body for the Lord's glory. . And He gave some . . . forthe equipping of the saints for the work of service to the building up of the body of Christ. fEph. 42111 Chuck Winkler, Athletics Director ll-Tl From the Word fCol. 3:17 St 1 Cor. 10:31t we know that we are to glorify God in whatever we do. This is the purpose and intent of our athletic program. How do we accomplish this objective? First, we must realize that we are not playing for personal glory or other selfish reasons. We must ask the Lord continually to help us use athletics as a means to bring honor to Him. Next, we realize that we must do our best. God expects us, as His children, to strive to do our best in whatever we do. He expects sacrifices that are essential to excel in each endeavor we attempt. We want to strive to always encourage another. Corrections should be made by the Coaches and their purpose should be only for the improvement of the individual. Winning is important, but not the most important thing. The desire to win fairly is very important. We realize we will not win every athletic contest but we desire to play as though we will win. We want to strive to be winners in all areas of life, not just athletics. Athletics is very insignificant when compared to the task the Lord has given us. And that is to do all to the praise of His glory. Beth Ftyan, Counselor The counseling program at Palo Verde Christian School is based on the Word of God. We believe that a wise man is he who listens to counsel. tProv. 12:15j. First of all, students are able to receive career and college counseling. Students are advised on college and career plans appropriate to their individual needs and interests. Each year college representatives from various Christian and secular colleges throughout the Southwest are invited to our school to provide informative seminars for our Junior and Senior students. Assistance is available to students in filling out applications for admissions and seeking sources of financial aid. Career planning and guidance is also provided for students who want to find full time work after high school. Standardized testing on the Secondary level is scheduled. Examples of test given are the Stanford Achievement Test, PSATXNMSQT Test, ATMA-state Math competition and ACT-SAT Tests. ln addition, testing and special services through Tucson School District 41 are provided for the students with special needs. Finally, all academic records, GPA averages and class ranks are maintained and computed by the school counselor. Students may come in and check on these records at any time or receive personal or spiritual counsel based on God's word. . . . But with those who receive counsel is wisdom. iProv. 13: 1Oi The goal of this command is love, which comes from a pure heart and a good con- science and a sincere faith. 1 Tim. 1:5 NIV 4 Administration BOAR D OF EDUCATIO But the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pureg then peace loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere. There are feelings of happi- ness that we made it. There are feel- ings of sadness that we're leaving be- hind our younger years. There's won- der of what's going to happen in the future, and there's joy, because God is going to take care of it all. There are feelings of accomplishment. There's a special joy that we, the class of 1986 have. We could be the last graduating class of Palo Verde Christian High School. But even though we might be the last, we'll never forget the time we had together. There's so much for us to look forward to, and so much to look back at. We see the unity of our class in our fund raisers, our class functions and parties, our Senior Trip. We see the unity even in the times we argue, because it brings us closer together. As we graduate, and go our separate ways, we'll never forget the love and caring we had for each other, God gave us that love, and because He did, we'll never forget each other, The .-......., W K SCi'1f:duil: -fun-u-........,,,,2 ., Xi ....--.......,,,. ,.., , NX X ,f S af Q66 X.,- Class of 1986. by Penny Bossenbroek nf ff Wouldn't it be easier to use a calculator, Class of'86 shows their unity by forminga unity circle . This is because during Spirit Week 100 'MJ of the class dressed up every day, along with winning many of the contests at the pep assembly. The Junior class is also very active in fun- draisers for the Junior-Senior banquet this year. They have held such fundraisers as bake sales, car washes, swap meets, and selling pens. The class President, Shelly Vroegh has been a great encouragement to the Juniors, by organizing these successful fundraisers. The Junior class has a lot of potential. lt is evident that all of the Juniors will have a successful Senior year in '87 and a bright future. The goals of the Sophomore class this year were to raise money and have fun. We had seven class parties and large attendance at school events, so the second goal was accomplished easily. Our first goal, however, was more difficult. We had nearly four car washes and a fundraiser breakfast, along with other scattered moneymakers. It was hard work, but we managed to pull it off and are now well on the way for our Junior and Senior years. All in all, this year has been a growing experience, both with each other and in the Lord. Hopefully no one can look back on it with any regrets . . . except that it is over. By: Liz Neal Sharing with each other is a very popular activity during lunch. We will be doing projects like making a model solar system and writing our autobiographies. We will also be having a Science Fair. We will be judged by the projects we have made and the reports we have written. We will also be having some fund raisers to put on a banquet honoring the Eighth Grade. One of the fund ralsers was Rent-a- Seventh-Grader. For all students who don't know what this is, it is for us to auction off the Seventh Graders, then when you have done so, you can have them dress up - but be appropriate. ln the spring, we are going to have our second Teacher Hunt. The teach- ers dress up as someone else and they will go to the Tucson Mall and the students will go and find them. by B.J. To see students reach out and obtain their goals because God de- sires to help us reach them and do our best. qJer.29:11y Betsy Richards: The lady behind the camera , mm rw Paul Butler working to meet the deadline. 58 Yearbook Faithful is He who calls you and He also will bring it to pass I Thes. 5:24 NIV - N Q' 4 Jim and Greg working hard for our Yearbook. Mrs. Fuller started the year oil by teaching the many kinds of speeches: personal experience, demonstrative, informative, persuasive, and dramatic interpretation, all of these being performed by each student in the class. They studied Fienaissiance Theatre and what it was like to perform way back in that time place. As semester rolled around, Drama came into view. The class put on various productions of skits and fairy tales for the elementary students. The skits were from the Fruit of the Spirit and the Friends of Jesus series. Of course, they all worked hard in preparing for the grand finale at the end of the year, the Spring Play. Everyone in the class did their part in making truly a fine year in Speech!Drama, 1985-86. 5 kg-E . .. Heather practices for a dramatic reading. Wendi rewrites a script to suit the actors.
