Seniors Win Spirit Week!! Spirit Week was drastically changed for the 1984-85 school year. In an attempt to reduce traditional Spirit Week vandalism, the Administra- tion decided to reduce the week” to only three days, this decision was extremely unpopular with the majority of the students, especially the Seniors who felt, cheated and deprived ... as one student put it. Another change occured when the powers that be decided to bring the floats to Paly to be completed on Thursday, thus eliminating the traditional element of surprise at halftime of the Homecoming game, played on Friday. Most students felt that such drastic measures need not have been taken, but the Administration believed that things had gotten out of hand last year. Despite their lack of popularity, the changes did help to reduce vandalism dur- ing the three days. tumes worn by the Senior class on Thursday, the Seniors were again in first place. Continuing their romp of the Sophomores, the class of '85 proceeded to sweep the competitions on Friday by winning the spoon relay, dress relay, ice cream feed, tug-of-war, and the yell contest. The clinching moment came when the floats emerged for their showing. The Senior float was obviously far above that of the class of ’87 in design, craftsmanship, and originality. The clear winner, Gumby was awarded many more points than any of the other floats and helped to swing the Senior class to a well-deserved victory. The Freshmen finished a hard-earned second; the Juniors were an average third; and the Sophomores finished with only the Revenge of the Class of ’85. Another significant event marking Spirit Week was the performance of the Sopho- more class who, at the beginning of the competition on Wednesday held a com- manding lead. However, during the rally on Wednesday, the Seniors narrowed the mar- gin to a few points. And, after an impressive performance by Chris Fry in the baby bottle contest and the superiority of the cos- Srs.
