:iVTr The life and activities of Palo Alto High School and its students can be compared to the growth of a tree. Our community, like the roots of a tree, provides the basic nourishing element in the school's existence. Next, the trunk, which holds up the tree's branches, is similar to our administration which supports Paly’s departments and activities. New leaves sprout from the branches as new underclassmen enter the school each year. The final products of the tree are the leaves which eventually leave if, as the final products of Palo Alto High School are the graduating seniors. 2

As a hazardous bolf of lightning may cut down a tree bringing to a sudden stop nature's plans for its future growth, so did a nonsensical shot from a rifle strike down a man ending a nation's hopes for what he might later have accomplished. It is in remembrance of his lifelong adherence to his ideals that we humbly dedicate the 1964 Madrono to John Fitzgerald Kennedy. 3
