A FOREWORD FROM OUR PRINCIPAL Ivan H, Linder,, Principal To the students of Paly High: The release of the 1953 Madrono coincides with the opening of the commence- ment season which for the most part is a very happy season not untouched with re- grets at the depar+ure of the members of this year's class. Most of us find it difficult to realize the amount of careful planning and hard work which the sponsor and the staff put into the production of the yearbook. In this yearbook the Class of 1953, through their elected representatives, under- takes to capture and preserve for all Paly students the highlights of the school, the photos of class members, and pictures of activities in which all Paly students may engage. Our Madrono, from year to year, has been of uniformly high quality, and, yet, each class undertakes to introduce new features which will make of it the very best book possible within the limits of financial resources. Being completely student managed the yearbook provides an accurate mirror of your life at Paly High which you can ill afford to leave to the vagaries of unprompted memory. Moreover, within its covers it holds glimpses of school life which will touch off chain reactions of memory and’ hence will become more and more valuable to you as your high school days recede in memory. With this issue of the Madrono our very best wishes to the Class of 1953. Faculty and students join me in wishing for the Class of 1953 that for them opportunities be both plentiful and promising, and that they may approach the future as though walk- ing in upright confidence into the lavender-hued splendor of a June sunrise.
