FAREWELL TO THE CLASS OF 1953 As I write this, the second semester has hardly begun and there are myriads of details to which we all must attend before we part. You, Class of 1953, I shall long remember and cherish for I have thoroughly enjoyed our very pleasant association and friendships. You have dis- tinguished yourselves in so many ways — you have had the finest Junior Prom ever, a wonderful Senior Ball; and you have had some of the most outstanding scholars the school has ever known. So many of your affairs have been so successful because of thoroughly good student leader- ship, and to the leaders of this class may I offer a special tribute and my heartfelt thanks. To all of you I wish success and happiness as you travel a new course into uncharted seas. My hopes go with you that you may find an interesting and fruitful life. Good luck and farewell! Very sincerely, Evelyn M. Kizer

Schmidt. © Jr iTl; Nick Schmidt Vice-President SENIOR HISTORY With all the ir hopes and dreams for three years centered on graduation in 1953, the Seniors now face their goal with mingled happiness and regret. This final year, however, has been packed with work and fun to make it the best and fullest the class has ever had. We have taken part in athletics, dramatics, music, girls' and boys' leagues, language clubs, the student court, publications, and numerous social events; and in each case names of the members of the class of '53 stand at the top of the list in bold letters as among the successful. As we look back over our three terrific years at Paly, into our minds the vision of the Junior Prom which created for us the illusion of a mardi-Gras comes first; followed by the highly-successful Spring Play, Lost Horizon, in which members of the class of '53 excelled. As a result of the elections last May, Bill Kwong was elected the leader of the class of 1953 for the second time in his high school career, the first being in his sophomore year. Nick Schmidt was elected to the vice-presidency, and Joan Hathaway to the secretary-treasurer position. Last but not least, our senior year has come and almost gone. But a lot has hap- pened to make it unforgetable in every way. The Girls' annual Jinx went over very successfully this year. It ran for two nights in- stead of one. Our basketball team came very close to winning all-PAL but was de- feated by Lincoln 39-41 in a playoff. The Senior Ball was high-lighted by entertain- ment presented to the crowd in keeping with the theme Deep South. Also some- thing new was added this year by Jean Lenzen. It was the Senior Party which was held in the choir room. A buffet dinner, entertainment and dancing were offered to seniors only. As the copy goes to press, the Seniors are eagerly looking forward to Senior Week which will conclude their high school career. Joan Hathaway Secretary BUI Kwong President
