SENIOR HISTORY Remember when . . . as sophomores we felf awed and sfrange in The long green Paly halls? The seniors seemed fo be fhe axis on which fhe world revolved: we were iusf awfully small cogs in a fremendous wheel. How- ever. when our inifial frepidafions wore off, we began fo make ourselves felf around school. Our sophomore foofball feam played for fhe championship, losf fo Sequoia, and came in a fhumping second. Our baseball feam came up from fhe cellar and made second also. Remember when . . . as iuniors we felf a liffle less fhan seniors and a greaf deal more fhan sophomores? We were proud fhaf our iunior boys confribufed so much 'lo 'lhe success of fhe varsify foofball squad as well as winning fhe Campus Day 'rug-of-war. Our class inauguraied fhe highly successful Junior Prom. Soon if was our furn fo run in fhe Spring elecfions, and our class officers held brighf promise of filling fhe sfudenf body's biggesf shoes. Remember when . . . we suddenly were seniors! The dream fhaf had been in 'rhe disfance for so many years was upon us in realify. Two Sepfembers lafer, we were walking fhe same hall . . .only wifh sophomores and iuniors looking up +o us for guidance and example. And, as a class, we didn'+ sef such a bad one: Seniors led fhe foofball and baskefball feams fo highly successful seasons: our commishes worked acfively and energefically and succeeded in leaving fhe Alma Mafer in beffer condifion fhan when fhey found if, l-lighlighfs of fhe fall ferm were fhe rollicking Girls' Jinx and some lively rallies. Our newly-painfed pink and blue audiforium fook on a sophisficafed. worldly afmosphere wifh ihe spring producfion of Noel Coward's Blifhe Spirit Then quickly waking us ouf of our Twelve year daze came caps and gowns, exams, Senior Week . . . graduafion.

l I TO THE CLASS OF I95I: Since the last class graduated from Paly, our country has become involved in another war whose extent and duration even our leaders cannot now predict. It is always difficult to advise young people under such circumstances. I once knew of a great teacher who told her class members there was only one way for youth to meet a crisis and that was, in her words, nto function in disaster and finish in sty1e.n Our civilian and military leaders are advising high school graduates to enter college where they can, remain as long as they are permitted, and make the very best record possible. To me this is the best means of functioning in the present disaster. By doing this you will be in a posi- tion to return to your original plan after such military service as may be demanded of you. Whatever you do, however, we of the high school should like you to consider Paly High one of your home bases, second only to that of your immediate family. We shall con- tinue our interest in you and your progress. Come back and tell us about your achievements. On behalf of the faculty and students of Paly may I extend to you every best wish for your success. Sincerely, Ivan H. Linder Principal
