ln less than a decade some of you may very well have made a trip to the moon. ln fact you may even prepare some phase of the venture. , In another decade there will be 70,000 new jobs, jobs that cannot presently be envisioned. lt is not the change but the rate of change that is caus- ing dismay on all fronts, according to Marshall McLuhan. The gap between generations is more that a gap, it is a series of changes that refuse to stand still long enough for a gap to be closed or even moved. The fantasy of the space world is no longer a fantasy, The space world is yours, yours to fashion into something beneficial to mankind, to bring about a world filled with achievement and peace among people. The class of 68 is fortunate, for though these are trying times, there is a challenge, a reason for being. The class of 68 is also a mature group of students. l commend you to a world that needs you and will be better for your ideas and aspirations. Good Luck as you venture into the world of space! Arthur F. Terrell Superintendent of Schools 9

C l3 lfQi3 I These are trying times for everyone, especially for those of you who are being thrust into the arena of life for the first time. The world is distraught by war and by concomitant evils, love of power and desire . . . and desire for wealth and struggle for social position. Un- certainty is keeping the business world in a static condi- tion, Unrest is Dermeating every strata of society and indefinite governmental policies and principles are creat- ing a dangerous atmosphere. Because of these conditions there is a challenge to youth, especially to those leaving high school. Your op- portunities will be rich and varied. They may take you far afield from traditional lanes in which you at first had planned to walk, We send you forth with confidence and hope that achievement will be yours in the opport- unities presented to you. Taylor R. Kirby 10
