Band2 4 Sr Dramatics4 Searchlight Staff 4 :- Robert Wilson Torpedo Give me fun or give me death Letter Club 3 4 Key Club 3 4 Boys Chorus 1 2 Mixed Chorus 1 2 Band 2 4 Basketball 2 4 Football 2 3 4 Searchl1ghtStaff enior Histor In September 195.2 fifty five freshmen entered Palmyra High School for the first time We were a little green at ftrst but after our initiation by the sophomores we lost our shyness and got into the swtng of things we elected Mrs Schuckenbrock and Mr McClain as sponsors The biggest projects for the year were the Home coming float on which we did not win a prize but we were none the less proud of tt the selling of Christmas cards on which we made around S100 and the banquet with which we entertained the ophomores in the spring To begin our sophomore year we had 46 members in the class Mrs Ellis and Miss Seeger sponsored t the discomfort caused us on the day of our initiation by initiating the new freshmen and then treating them to a party Herbert Kaden was chosen to represent the class on the Sophomore Pilgrimage Thirty nine Juniors entered the portals of Palmyra High for the third year in September 1954 Our sponsors were Mrs Ellts and Mr Adam The annual Junior Play was presented under the direction of Mrs Cramer I was entitled Brother Goose The biggest event of the year was the Junior Senor Banquet and Prom we used as our theme Rainbow Gardens It was a big success and we felt that our hard work was justly rewarded Judy Durham was chosen to attend'Gtrls State in Fulton Carmen Hayden was the representative to Boys State in Warrensburg In September 1955 forty seniors entered PHS to gain their last year of secondary education we selected Mrs Maize and Mr Swofford as our class sponsors Our officers for the year were President Carmen Hayden Secretary Sandra Kespohl Vice President Splinter Hoehne Treasurer Ruth Stuhlman RBPOUCI' Carol Kroeger- Parltamentartan Lloyd Lovelace Student Council girl patH1me, Student Council boy William Hofmetster The biggest proiect of this year was the editing of the Searchltght Judy Durham was elected Edttor and Maurice Knueppel was elected Asststant Edttor Rosemary Larenson was chosen Searchlight Queen and Robert Goodwin Searchlight King The Football Queen was Betty Lomax Judy Durham and Carol Kroeger were atten dants Pat Htrner was Barnwarming Queen and Marte Riney was attendant Dottye Schnetder was Carnival and Basketball Queen Marie Riney was Basketball Queen attendant Other events sponsored by the Sen1orClass were the Senior Play the Senior Carnival and the Senior Trtp to the Lake of the Ozarks Atlast the longawaited day Commencement arrtved The class of 56 leaves PHS wtth regret and many fond memories of the pleasant days we spent here and of the friends we made here t S ! s , u X I 31 1 F y . A 4 Kaden Maurice Drsselhorst Tommy Shear Cha rlre Bryant Don Kre kemeyer Glen Pepper Danny Hampton Carl Hoehne Carmen Hayden Coach Kelle tt We did not have much trme to kick off our football cleats and tie the laces of our sneakers After one week of practice the Palmyra Quintet of Hayden Drsselhorst Hoehne Pepper and Hampton played their first game on home court against LaGrange Carmen Hayden and Danny Hampton were the team s choices for co captains The second game at Kahoka was unsuccessful but had value in convincing the team that rt had a lot of work to do for a successful season It was 19 games after this fiasco that we saw defeat again The Palmyra agers finished the season with an over all record of 24 wins and 5 losses We are first place winners of the Mississippi Valley Conference for the second successive year with a 10 2 record Our opposition scored 1 429 points against our tally of 2 133 points One game was lost at home four on the road During the winter season we won two first place trophies tn the Monroe City and Mark Twain tournaments Our second de feat was by Monroe City 68 62 in the Palmyra tournament However we received second place honors Our regional tournament at Ktrksvtlle may have been called Operation Appendix We won our first three games by good margins However the eve before the finals Maurice Dtsselhorst was rushed to the hospital We lost 61 55 to Monroe City but received the second place trophy Individual members won honors Hayden and Hampton were named on the A11 Star team of the Mark Twain tournament Hampton was given the sportsmanship award at the Palmyra tournament Danny totaled 582 points for a 20 8 average Carmen totaled 478 points for a 16 5 average Both Bob Wilson and Herb Kaden saw a great deal of action Bob playing the entire final game at Kirksvrlle and Herb high point man against Shelbyville in the Monroe City tournament The reserve teams played rn most of the games B sides losing 5 games an appendix Camien s teeth and a piece of Splinter s eyebrow at LaBe1le we are losing five seniors Carmen Hayden Splinter Hoehne Maurice Dtsselhorst Bob Wilson and Herb Kaden Each of these team members will be mrssed for their fine team play We wtsh them success' f f r '27 . , .
