Seam GLM Jzrzma In September, 1949, fifty-seven freshmen entered the portals of Palmyra High School to begin their high school career. We were a little shy at first but soon became acquainted and quite at home. Our sponsors for the year were Mrs. Schuckenbrock and Mrs. Ellis. A day never to be forgotten was freshman initi- ation. We were honored to have one of our class mates, Mabel Claus, elected Carnival Queen. In September, 1950, fifty-six sophomores began their second year in Pal- myra High School. Our sponsors for the year were Mrs. Ellis and Mr. Hulen. Early in the year We initiated the freshmen and also gave them a party. Harold McCormick was chosen to represent the class on the Sophomore Pilgrimage. In September, 1951, fifty-two juniors started the second half of their high school education. Our sponsors were Mrs. Stewart and Mr. Lewis. We presented the annual junior play, LOVE IS TOO MUCH TROUBLE, on December 7. The biggest event of the year was the jr.-Sr. Prom in the spring. Carolyn Becker was chosen to attend Girls, State in Fulton. Bob Bier was the representative to Boys' State in Boonville. In September, 1952, fortyone seniors entered PHS to gain their last year of secondary education. We selected Mrs. Maize and Mr. Hafner as our class spon- cors. Our officers for the year were: President-Harold McCormick Secretary-Phyllis Mette Vice-Pres.-Cathy Herring Treasurer-Carolyn Schade Student Body President.-.--- ........ Roger Feaster Student Council Girl .,... ---Shirley Courtright Student Council Boy-----. -------------- Donald Bestman The biggest project of the year was the editing of the Searchlight. Elizabeth Hampton was elected Editor and Edna Knueppel, Assistant Editor. Betty Dis- selhorst was chosen Searchlight Queen and jimmy Rouner, Searchlight King. Carolyn Becker was the Football Queen and Margie Cottman attendant. Phyllis Mette, was Senior attendant at the annual Barnwarming. Other events sponsored by the Senior Class were the Senior Play, the Senior Carnival, the Senior trip. At last the long awaited day, Commencement, arrived. The Seniors of '53 leave PHS with many happy memories of the pleasant and enjoyable days spent there.

Seam PM This year the Seniors chose for their play A Feudin, Over Yondery' a hill billy comedy in three acts, by Le Roma Rose. The plot revolves around the Popoff family years because one of the Popoff boys said he was and the Fry family who have been feuding for going out to shoot an old skunk one day and ac- cidentally shot Paw Fry instead. Periodically Mountain Maggie, a legendary character who travels around the hills nursing the sick, must come to patch up someone hurt in the feud. Rosie Belle Fry, being handy with a gun, takes the only unattached nose. Emmy, whoid like to get hitched, decides one of the Popoff boys. But how can she marry She enlists the aid of Mountain Maggie who's tired it.
